Parting Clouds
As Cloud became old he realized he did not have a successor. Although such things never bothered him in the past, all of a sudden he felt a minor amount of worry and wish that he had cared more in his younger years.

One day he approached a member of the Pack who was Paid Bond-less and asked her if she would be willing to try to conceive a puppy for him. After a long talk, she agreed and they tried. Unfortunately, it would be quickly found out that Cloud had...complications.

Starshine - the wolf that agreed to help Cloud - offered the idea to adopt. Although his heart sank a bit knowing it came quickly to this, he knew in his heart that perhaps it just wasn't meant to be and to at least take a look.

Starshine followed the old wolf and agreed to offer her opinion and guidance to choosing a puppy, though she insisted that Cloud would be doing the bulk of the decision. Eventually Cloud found a puppy who looked like dappled clouds, almost a "cloudier" version of him! He talked with the puppy and played with him awhile, and he found his hurt heart became warm and lifted again. He agreed to adopt the little one.

Alto - named after the similar-looking dappled clouds in the sky - is like most of the puppies Dawnrise adopts; energetic and eager to please their new family! Alto adores Cloud and finds him quite curious - since Cloud adopted Alto in his late years, Alto does not know how Cloud was in the past but he does know that many "boy wolves" in the pack respect and adore him even if he isn't sure why. He knows his adoptive father is a teacher so he assumes maybe he taught them all, not realizing that he wasn't too far off the mark - in actuality, Cloud was a very prominent member of the Hunter Training team and kept peace between the other more volatile hunters, allowing most of the new family-less male wolves to confide in him (like Coolbreeze).

After the adoption, Starshine told Cloud that he could do the bulk of raising Alto but she would take up the helm if "something happened" - knowing what she meant, Cloud makes sure to spend as much time as possible with Alto, teaching him and playing with him all along the way.

Named after Alto- genus of clouds (such as the Altocumulus and Altostratus clouds) which are known to look "dappled" and heaped, like his Merle mark!
