His mentor Snow-tail would send him out to look for herbs when no wolves needed treatment, or they needed to restock their supply. He would often see his brother Chestnut-pelt, Ice-step, and Dusk-tail hunting near by. Sometimes Dusk-tail would visit him in the forest while he collected herbs. He looked up to her, he wanted to be a hunter just like her, but was forced to be an herbalist by his father. His father thought it was right, his oldest son (Chestnut-pelt) should be the deputy since he was the stronger one out of the two, and his youngest son(Smoke-berry) should take the herbalist route.
Snow-tail (the herbalist) had found out about that he had a mate and was expecting pups, and told him he could no longer be an herbalist. Which is what he wanted anyway, but he must become a hunter or scout.
