Drelas was not a complicated wolf. Sure, he had been born to an ambitious mother who had trained he and his equally ambitious brother into a couple of young powerhouses before they had even become full members of the pack. However, Drelas only sought to appease his mother so that he could do whatever he pleased... Well, when he wasn't doing whatever his brother pleased for him, of course. Drelas knew all about his mother's want for them to be great and to never be left behind as she had been. He knew all too well his brother's plans to become alpha someday, and he had tried fervently not to know about Sorcor's friends in the mist whom he visited every full moon. Between the two of them they had a good many expectations which they laid squarely upon his shoulders. Drelas rubbed a paw over his face as he considered this. All he wanted was to spend his days minding his own business, but it seemed that that was not to be his lot.
Sorcor needed a beta— or, more likely, an enforcer— and he was hard-pressed to be there for his brother, as insane and unattainable as his goals seemed to Drelas. He and his brother had been through much together, and neither would ever leave the other behind in any endeavor. It was a part of what made them strong. So, until Sorcor gave up his ridiculous ambitions in a pack whose succession was determined by blood he did not share, Drelas resolved to accompany him and make sure he didn't get too soundly beaten when all of it blew up in his face.

Drelas was born to Raalia, a Redfeather scout and former foundling pup. Before she'd had puppies she was rather carefree, but after her first son, Arnfinn had been born she began to think. It was when Drelas and his brother, Sorcor had been born that the result of this thinking came to fruition. The brothers were schooled long and hard each day from a young age to be expert hunters, ruthless fighters, and above all, very ambitious in all endeavors. With Drelas only the first two lessons stuck.
Sure, the young wolf was a great hunter and an immovable force in a fight despite his small stature, but he had about as much ambition as a stone. This constantly frustrated his mother, who often scolded him for it, reminding him that he was not an alpha by blood like his eldest brother, so he would have to work hard to become one in skill and cunning. She had it in her head after the early deaths of Drelas' other littermates that they needed to be stronger than all others and secure their place in the pack by a mixture of skill and force. He thought all of it was ridiculous, of course. He simply wasn't an alpha and that was okay by him.
After a time Drelas left his mother's harsh and intense training behind in favor of training with the more laid back Zinnia and her daughter, Solas, who was about his age. Laid back was not the right word for Zinnia, though she was infinitely less demanding than his mother. The golden she-wolf was attempting and failing to create a fighter out of her funny little daughter and this was distressing her somewhat, so Drelas stepped in to become Solas' sparring partner. He quickly whipped her into shape and stopped going to lessons with his own mother altogether.
It was around this time that his brother, Sorcor, began to sneak off every month during the full moon. Drelas did not have to wait long for the explanation as almost immediately his brother began spouting ridiculous plans to overthrow Anahera and Nīkau and become alpha himself. Drelas would have dismissed these plans as fancies if he did not know his brother was such an ambitious wolf and likely meant every word. Needing someone to speak to who was sane, and having grown closer to Solas as their training continued, he vented to her often about Sorcor's silly plans.
Despite his inner and private ridiculing of his family's schemes, he was beholden to his brother. They had been hurt by the loss of their other siblings as pups, and had resolved to always be there for one another, so Drelas would be there. He wouldn't like it, though, and he continued to discuss his brother's whispers with Solas, who was becoming more and more incredulous with each story. Drelas decided to show her one night the true magnitude of the situation, having grown fond of her and wanting her insight rather than her dismissal. This proved to be a mistake. From that night crouched in the undergrowth at the edge of the forest, staring out wide-eyed at the scene unfolding on the riverbank, she had become overtly judgemental. She acted as if he had betrayed her, though truthfully he had only acted out of love for her, wanting her to take things more seriously and prepare for what now undoubtedly lay ahead.
The next month or so had been torture for Drelas. His brother grew ever more fanatical, his mother hounded him about his upcoming rise to full pack member, and Solas spoke to him with acid tones each time they chanced to converse, which was less and less with each passing day. He could hardly stand to remain in the hollow, some nights not returning at all in favor of sleeping on the flat stones on the riverbank, albeit far from where his brother's Cereus wolves appeared each full moon. When the day finally came for he, his brother and Solas to be made pack members he was pleasantly shocked to see that everyone had forgotten their problems and the pack was simply happy to have three new members.
Taking advantage of the precious moment of peace and accomplishment, he asked Solas to be his mate. He downplayed his request to try and minimize the inevitable rejection, but to his further surprise she agreed, and heartily. The pair knew the better part of a year's peace before pandemonium broke loose. Sorcor had not given up his schemes after all, and, one morning before the majority of the pack had even awoken his brother had slipped down to the riverbank to open the portal he had been building and allow the Cereus alpha and his best to make their attack. The chaos spared no one, all of the pack was soon embroiled in battle. Even crippled pupsitter, Faleeah, had tried her best to protect her charges savagely as the terrible moonlight wolves tried to force their way into the relief den. Drelas was dismayed, resolving to side with his alphas after all just when his brother was attacked by Anahera herself.
She could easily have killed Sorcor, he had told himself each day from that moment. He had had to come to his brother's aid. He would have died else. Drelas still wasn't sure whether he did not regret that decision. The alphas had left the next day. With them they took most of the pack's adults, including Solas. Those who stayed were either unable to go, as in the case of Faleeah, or unwilling with an ulterior motive, as in the case of Rasp, who wanted to keep an eye on things for his alphas and report back to them via his mate, Raea. Drelas hadn't told his brother that. Now he struggled to 'keep the peace' as Sorcor and the Cereus pack put it. He would make his brother believe that's what he was doing, at least until he could get through to him, snap him out of this madness and bring his mate and alphas home.
