Biography
Go to Glass'heart's bio for the first part.
Wild'fang stayed with Marble'stone, Shep, Hawk'storm, and Glass'heart.
"Could I bury him with you? I knew him well," He asked.
Glass'heart nodded without looking up. They carried him to the burial site. Shep and Hawk'storm lowered his body into his grave next to Yumi. Wild'fang covered his body in dirt and Glass'heart put a stack of rocks where Marble'stone's head was. Everyone sat there throughout most of the night. Wild'fang stood up and headed back to camp. Everyone was still asleep. He headed to his den and fell asleep. He woke up to the sun reaching his eyes. Wild'fang trotted to the food pile and picked a beaver. Marble'paw scampered up to him.
"Can I eat with you?" She asked.
Wild'fang nodded. She began to talk about what's been happening. He looked toward the entrance of camp. Glass'heart must still be with Marble'stone. As he finished up the beaver, Glass'heart walked into camp. Wild'fang perked his ears toward her as he sat up. He left Marble'paw alone as he walked toward Glass'heart. He trotted closer and saw another wolf behind her.
"Who is that, Glass'heart?" He stopped in front of her.
"This is Dust'pelt. He wanted to join our pack," She explained.
"I see," He looked thoughtful, then spoke again. "I need to tal-"
Dust'pelt interrupted, "Hello, who are you?" He asked cheerfully.
"Wild'fang." He said irritated. "Glass'heart, I need to speak with you."
"Ok, we can speak in my den. Stay here Dust'pelt," As they both headed toward her den, Dust'pelt looked annoyed. "What is it, Wild'fang?"
"I know this might be too quick but, the pack needs a Beta. I was wondering if I could be your Beta."
Glass'heart thought a moment, "I will think about it. You can join me on overhang rock as I call a pack meeting."
They both headed out. At the sun's highest peak, Glass'heart climbed up the rock.
"All wolves head to the clearing for a pack meeting," She howled.
As everyone headed into the clearing, Wild'fang climbed next to Glass'heart.
"We have a new wolf here to join our pack." She looked at him, "Dust'pelt. Step forward." Dust'pelt stepped in front of everyone and looked up. "You claim that you needed a pack and that you are suitable for a role in this pack. So then, from this day forward, your job will be to pupsit."
All the wolves joined in, chanting his name. "Dust'pelt, Dust'pelt, Dust'pelt!"
Glass'heart had waited to settle down before speaking again. "We have lost our Beta Marble'stone to a heart attack. So, I have thought about who will be the new Beta. Wild'fang will take his place of Beta for now."
Many wolves murmured agreement due to his popularity. "Wild'fang, Wild'fang, Wild'fang!"
That is all, pack dismissed. She turned to Wild'fang. Wild'fang looked at Glass'heart.
"I am glad you actually agreed to take me as your beta." He thanked.
"Don't thank me. You reached all the standards that are required to be Beta." She explained.
They both looked at each other's eyes for a few seconds. Wild'fang looked away.
Ahem "I must get back to my hunting party."
Glass'heart looked disappointed. "Ok, I will show Dust'pelt to the other pupsitters."
They headed in the opposite direction. Does she like me? Wild'fang shook his head at the thought. No, she can't. I need to be leader. He felt slightly ashamed at the thought. Frost'claw broke his thoughts.
"Hey, Wild'fang! We're over here!" He called.
He headed toward them in hopes those thoughts would be forgotten.
It had been a few days since Dust'pelt joined the pack and Wild'fang's job as Beta and lead hunter was going well. Dust'pelt had left camp once through an old exit. Wild'fang had thought it was suspicious since he was a pupsitter. They weren't allowed out of camp unless they were training puppies. Wild'fang continued with instructing the wolves what to do.
A week later, After Lilac passed and Lilac'paw became Lilac'tail to take her place, Wild'fang saw Dust'pelt leave camp through the old exit again. This time Wild'fang decided to follow him.
"Hawk'storm! Take my place while I'm gone. I want you to assign a patrol. Shep, Zero! I want you with me," He announced. "Let's go." Once they exited through the old exit, Zero seemed to have caught Dust'pelt's scent.
"What is Dust'pelt doing out of camp?" He questioned.
"That's what we are going find out. Zero, you help me track him and Shep if anything happens, you kill," Wild'fang instructed. "Come on."
Zero and Shep looked at each other but, said nothing more.
The three wolves followed the trail and came upon Dust'pelt next to a stream. He bent down for a drink. A giant wolf appeared from the other side of the stream with glowing blue eyes and a grey pelt.
"Ah, it's just you," Dust'pelt shook relief.
"So, how is it going?" The Grey wolf asked.
"The leader made me a pupsitter instead of beta. All because of some other wolf," Dust'pelt sounded annoyed.
The other wolf twitched his ear, "That doesn't matter. Just get closer to her." He grinned maliciously, "Then poison her food!... Of course you'll need help. I'll send someone to get rid of the new beta. What does he look like?"
"He is Red with a tan face leading down his belly to his tail. Wild'fang is also part Lunar," Dust'pelt commented.
The blue-eyed wolf perked up to the sound of being part Lunar, "How.. interesting," He tilted his head in a bigger grin. "Go back and don't come back until you have some more news."
Dust'pelt dipped his head, "As you wish master."
The gigantic wolf left through the ferns and shrubs, while Dust'pelt headed toward Wild'fang, Shep, and Zero.
"Quick! Run back to camp!" Wild'fang ordered.
They all jumped and ran toward camp before Dust'pelt scented them.
Back at camp, all three wolves explained the situation to Glass'heart. When she heard they wanted to kill her, she froze.
"Glass'heart? Are you alright?" Shep leaned toward her.
She shook her head, "Yes, as soon as he gets back I will banish him from this pack. Act as if it it a normal meeting." Everyone nodded and followed her to the clearing. Glass'heart climbed up the rock with Wild'fang, "Let everyone meet in the clearing!" She howled.
Dust'pelt showed up only moments later out of breath. Once everyone had gathered, Glass'heart spoke.
"It appears that we have a spy in our pack!" she looked sternly at Dust'pelt then unsure.
"Hey, you're ok. This is the right thing to do." Wild'fang touched his paw to hers.
She sighed and continued, "Dust'pelt! You have been cause sneaking to meet another wolf that claims to want me dead." Dust'pelt froze as she spoke, "Is this true?!"
All the wolves around him backed away in shock, staring at him. Dust'pelt looked around beggingly then sighed when he realized he was on his own. "Yes, this is true." Dust'pelt stood up staring at her with calmness in his eyes.
Glass'heart hesitated, "Then... you are banished from The Feathered Howlers!"
"I understand," He looked at her with sympathy. "But, you're going to die anyway. You have no idea what he is capable of." He turned away and left. The wolves in the clearing murmured fear and anger.
Wild'fang looked at her. She can't dismiss the pack. She is frozen in fear. Wild'fang stood up.
"Pack dismissed!" He announced as he turned to help Glass'heart back to her den. They reached the den and laid her down. "Stay here. I will go get some herbs for shock." He turned and headed straight to the Herbalist den.
Marble'eye trotted toward him stopping from reaching the herbalist den. "Wild'fang! There you are. I need to ask you a question." Her eyes shined.
"Ask quickly," Wild'fang told her.
"I was wondering if you would like to be my mate?" She asked confidently with her tail curled in the air.
Wild'fang looked at her as she puffed her chest in confidence. She thinks I like her?!
"No." Wild'fang walked passed her.
She turned around with shock and hurt in her eyes. "But, why?!" She ran in front of him. "Is it because of Glass'heart?! I am better than her!" She yowled.
Wild'fang jeered at her annoyed, "Look. I don't want to be your mate. I have better things to do. Now, MOVE." He shoved her aside and went into the herbalist den. Marble'eye stared back at him with tears in her eyes.
He returned to Glass'heart with the herbs. He looked at her peacefully asleep. Now is my chance. Do it now! He tiptoed next to Glass'heart. Staring down at her, he opened his mouth and got ready to rip her throat out. He hesitated. A memory flashed in his mind. The night they laid under the stars in the meadow under a tree.
"Glass'heart. I have a question to ask you." He looked at Glass'heart.
"Go ahead. I'm listening." She looked back at him.
"Do you want to be my mate?" Wild'fang asked awkwardly.
Glass'heart looked at the stars, then leaned onto him. "Of course I will."
They had spent the whole night under that tree. What am I doing?! He pulled himself away with a violent shake back to reality. I have to do this. This is the only way I can become leader. He thought to himself some more. Not yet. I am not ready to become leader. I need the support of my Packmates when she dies. He agreed to himself. He prodded Glass'heart after he picked the herbs up off the ground.
"Glass'heart, I brought you some herbs for shock." He said around a mouth of herbs.
She looked up at him, slightly smiling at him. "Thank you, Wild'fang." She ate the herbs as he dropped them next to her.
"Rest. You need it." Wild'fang told her as he began to head toward the clearing.
"Wait. Can you stay here tonight?" She looked up with fear in her eyes. "I'm scared to be alone."
Wild'fang looked at her and back toward the clearing. I can't leave her alone. That will break her trust. He turned back toward her, "Of course. I'll stay with as long as you need." He laid next to her in the nest. "Get some sleep." She fell asleep soon after and soon enough, sleep started to fall onto him.
In the morning, he awoke to Glass'heart still asleep. He looked at her with affection.
"Glass'heart, wake up." He nudged her with his muzzle.
"Ok, ok. I'm getting up." Glass'heart sat up.
"c'mon we need to get the Pack ready for patrols and hunting." He stood up and walked to the entrance.
"I'm coming." She stood up sluggishly, pulling her toward him.
Do herbs for shock do that? "Go see the herbalist. Let her make sure your ok."
They both headed out into the clearing. Only a few wolves were awake when he got to the herbalist den.
"Lilac'tail, I need you to check on Glass'heart. She was sluggish this morning." He told Lilac'tail as Glass'heart made her way inside the herbalist den.
"Sure. Glass'heart go lay in the nest on the right." Lilac'tail instructed.
"I will check on her at the sun's highest peak." Wild'fang announced as he headed to assign patrols.
Later that day, Wild'fang assign two patrols of 5 wolves each, due to the threat from the day before. He noticed the sun at it's highest and headed to the herbalist den.
"How is she doing?" Wild'fang asked Lilac'tail as she walked outside the entrance of the herbalist den.
"She is doing well. The herbs did cause her to be sluggish. And," She stopped and looked at him.
Wild'fang looked at her, nervousness creeping on him. "And?"
"She is expecting puppies." Lilac'tail finished.
What? No, that can't be. She can't be!
"You better take good care of her, Wild'fang." She looked at him with a stern look. "You may go see her now."
Deep breath. Everything i fine.. He walked toward the entrance and poke his head in to see her curled up in a nest. EVERYTHING IS NOT FINE! Wild'fang walked up to her.
"You're expecting?" He asked Glass'heart.
She turned and looked at him. "Yes, I am. I've always wanted this. I can't express how excited I am to be a mother!" Happiness swelled in her eyes.
Wild'fang's heart sank like a stone in water as he realised it was true. "Glass'heart, I am happy as well. It's just that I don't think I will be a good father to them." Guilt pricked under his pelt. How could he lie to her.
"Of course you will! I'm sure. When they arrive, you'll see." She reassured him.
Wild'fang put a smile on his face, even though he was devastated. This ruined all of his plans. Wild'fang may have planned to kill Glass'heart, but he didn't have the heart to kill his unborn puppies.
Be grateful! I am having puppies for crying out loud! Many wolves never get the chance to be a father. He tried to reassure himself. "If you think I will be a good father, then I believe I will too." He laid next to her with his head on her belly. This is good. I will receive support from this. He reassured himself more.
Word of Glass'heart's pregnancy had gotten out within the next few days. Wild'fang and Glass'heart had received a lot of congratulations.
By the next full moon, Glass'heart show her pregnancy well. It was time to go to the Full Moon Meeting. Wild'fang didn't want her to go, but like always, she insisted on going. She called a pack meeting.
"I will be taking Lilac'tail, Shep, Hawkstorm, Marble'eye, Dart'frost, Night'paw, and Fink'paw to this Full Moon Meeting. Everyone else will stay and watch the camp and protect the puppies." She announced.
They headed toward Sunset Island where Eagle rock lays. Wild'fang sat under Eagle rock making small talk with Glass'heart. Glass'heart leaped onto Eagle rock as the meeting began. The 4 wolf leaders went first, saying casual things about prey and territory. Glass'heart did the same and announce a betrayal.
"Dust'pelt was caught out and chatting to a wolf. They were chatting to kill me. He was banished as soon as I heard of this and make sure to not welcome him in your packs. Now, on a brighter turn of events, Wild'fang and I are expecting puppies!" She howled in happiness.
Wolves murmured congratulations. Wild'fang had felt like everyone was staring at him. Of course they would stare at me. I'm the father.
Soon enough, the meeting ended and Glass'heart gathered her pack and headed back. As soon as they got back each wolf went to their den to rest. Wild'fang's nest was moved and added to Glass'heart's nest in order to share a single den with her. Both wolves curled into the nest and fell into a merciless sleep.
The next morning, Wild'fang woke to Glass'heart whimpering. "Hey, Glass'heart. Did you have a nightmare?" He turned toward her. Glass'heart's whimpering grew louder. "Glass'heart what's wrong?" He nudged her in an effort to get her attention. She suddenly started howling relentlessly in agony and fear. "Glass'heart!" He yowled as he jumped over her to face her. Fear hit in like a bullet. Her throat and belly had been ripped out. "Glass'heart?!" He stood in shock. Wild'fang felt something dripping from his chin and reached to touch it. He began to shake as he realized it was blood, her blood. Wild'fang stared back at Glass'heart as she fell silent. He heard something shuffle behind him. Wild'fang turned to see the Giant wolf looking at him pleased. "You! What did you do?!" Wild'fang growl angrily. He charged at the wolf. The giant shuffled to the side quickly and bit on Wild'fang's throat. Wild'fang woke up.
Huff Huff. He shook his head. Thank Gazer. He looked to see the sun was rising from behind the shrubs. Wild'fang sat up and walked to the other side of his mate. Staring at her, he hesitated to touch her. He put his paw back down.
"Glass'heart, wake up." He barked.
"What is it?" Glass'heart woke up slowly.
"It's morning. We need to start our duties." He reminded her.
"Oh, right." She heaved herself up. Her belly was so big, she almost couldn't walk out the den.
"After you finish your duties go see Lilac'tail. And Don't leave camp." Wild'fang glared at her.
"I won't leave camp." She rolled her eyes playfully. "Just come see me when you finish your duties."
"I will. I'll see you later." He dipped his head and headed off.
Later that day, the sun passed sun-high. Wild'fang headed to the herbalist den. He started trotting toward the entrance just before hearing and agonizing howl. Glass'heart! Wild'fang flew through the entrance in fear.
"Glass'heart?!" He looked around and saw Lilac'tail next to Glass'heart. "What's happening!"
"She is having the puppies. Go wait outside the den. I will come get you when she is ready." Lilac'tail responded without looking up.
Wild'fang left the den and paced outside the entrance. Marble'eye trotted toward him as he paced around. Hurt and anger surged into her eyes.
"I knew it! You didn't want to be my mate because of her! If she hadn't been here you would be my mate!" Marble'eye shouted out. "Why do you like her anyway?! I am so much prettier and more skilled than she will ever be!"
"Why are you so annoying, huh? You always complain about the other wolves and now your complaining about me and my mate! Why don't you leave us alone and do your job?!" Wild'fang snarled at her.
"But, I want to be with you! It's not fair! I've always wanted to be your mate! I always did... Now I see you care for me less than dirt." Sadness and hurt turned to hatred and disgust. "If you think I am that annoying, you obviously hate me! You are a liar and a fraud! I will make your life miserable!" She howled before running off.
Nervousness clawed at his back. What does she mean? He shook the thought quickly. Uneasiness and anxiousness was released onto him. Will my puppies not like me? Will I be a good father like Glass'heart says?
He began pacing again. Moments later, he heard the squeal of a newborn. His ears pricked at the sound. Wild'fang began pancing around anxiously, wanting to see his mate and puppies.
"Calm down, that will only stress you more." Shep trotted to him. "She is my sister you know."
"I know that. I'm just scared something happens. What if she loses too much blood? What if my puppies don't make it?!" Wild'fang yelped at him.
"Glass'heart won't die. I'm sure of it." Shep sat by the opening to the herbalist den. "You can hear a puppy already, so your puppies are alive. Sit down, pacing will stress you more."
"Ok..." He reluctantly sat next to Shep and waited a while.
Hawk'storm showed up soon after. "She is still having puppies?" He sat on the other side of Shep.
"I don't know. She could be." Shep told him. "Wild'fang is extremely nervous about being a father."
"Oh he is?" He titled his head toward Wild'fang.
"Yes." Wild'fang admitted reluctantly.
"Don't worry, it's fun. You can play with them and boss them around!" He chuckled.
The three wolves waited a while longer. The sun had begun to sink behind the trees before Lilac'tail popped out the den.
"You may come see her now." She popped her head back into the den as they followed her.
Inside the den, Glass'heart laid in a nest with three small bodies suckling at her belly. Glass'heart opened her eyes warmly as they each sat near her.
"Aren't they wonderful, Wild'fang?" She looked at him.
He leaned closer for a better view. "They are perfect." He smiled deeply.
It had been a few months and the puppies were growing into healthy wolves. Wild'fang was content with life. The only thing that bothered him was Marble'eye's words, 'I will make your life miserable!' Leo'pup cut through his thoughts.
"Dad! Come play please! We want to play hunters!" He begged.
"Ok, I'm coming." He got up from laying down next to Glass'heart.
"Yay!" Leo'pup bounced off to his siblings.
Wild'fang wandered off to his puppies and began to play hunters. Life was calm for once. Everything was calm...
Leo'pup's point of view takes place next.
He laid next to her in the nest.
