Hatua

Nothing ever gets this wolf down. With a smile as sunny as his pelt, Hatua is quick to cheer up his packmates and engage in play if he feels anyone is down. His optimism isn't always loud, however, as he also knows when to just lie down next to a packmate that needs to be held in silence.

Hatua has gained the approval of the hunting party, but their failure has Symone think it prudent to see if he would be better used elsewhere. She is to join the hunting party while he stretches the role of Pupsitter. 

Hatua feels like he has failed the pack already, but has resolved to honor Felic's former position and sacrifice, eager to prove his worth again.

Despite the initial pressure of looking after his leader's pups and the side-glares from her partner, Hatua has blossomed as a Pupsitter. His sunny disposition merges well with that of the new arrivals, who surprisingly tire faster than he does when they play or tussle. He entertains them well with tales of his life before becoming a Stonefang, diciplines them accordingly when they missbehave, and is the last to sleep when everyone has tucked in for the night, second only to Symone, who keeps vigil for several hours before sleeping herself.

Now that Alioth and Alkaid are grown adolescents and no longer need his constant surveilance, Hatua has now taken the role of Scout to help Tern now that the only hunting party available is full. He misses the pups, but is very excited to hear that Buyan is now expecting. Until her litter arrives, however, he's happy to help around elsewhere.

Buyan's litter has finally arrived! Three little girls, all of which Hatua melted upon meeting and has sworn to protect with his life as he did Alioth and Alkaid.

Seeing how his latest litter are now adolescents, Hatua has found himself longing for work. Along with one of his first litter, Gwynnliol's and Symone's pup Alioth, he has approached her mother with the proposition to start a new hunting hunting group with the two of them. When Symone worried about what would happen if Hatua would be needed to pupsit again, he reasured her that by then, Buyan's pups would be grown enough to join Alioth. Symone has agreed to their hunting group, but just like with Alkaid's new Scout role, she watched the two run into the open with longing and pride in her eyes.

Nobody expected Tern to return so quickly from scouting, much less so with a pup. The wolf made a direct bee-line for Symone upon spotting her, and informed her of the boy they found alone in the taiga of all places. They would not leave him there. For a second the air was tense - and some feared Symone would cast out the pup, but her silence was broken by posing a question to her pack; "He cannot be left unattended, who of you can adopt him?" - Rhett and Witkryt answered.

While leaving his newest hunting party leaves him worried for Alioth and Comet, Hatua is over the moon to have a new pup to care for. Now the shock has begun to worn off, Willamenah's personality is peeking behind his shy, bright eyes, and Hatua will do his best to see him blossom.

It's hard to stay positive in a world where packs look for specific traits or strong pups, but the then only nick-named 'Ruddy', now properly named Colibrí, had her hopes rewarded the day Symone visited Mother Bear's enclave, and zoned in on the unasuming and barely weaned puppy.

Buyan has been dealing with her empty nest since her triplets finally became adults, and Tern - while indiferent towards having children of her own or not - did not know how to comfort the poor mother. They ushered the girl right to Buyan's side almost as soon as Symone had introduced her to the pack.

Joy! Jubilation! A new pup! Hatua howled and whined when Buyan - with less snarls and expectations than before, and with Tern in tow - asked him to be Colibrí's pupsitter. A formality, of course, given he is the only pupsitter, but it made the wolf giddy anyway. Almost immediately he became synched to Colibrí's own perky personality, though it's still a bit of a struggle to do his job with Buyan breathing on his neck, and Tern passing glances now and then, but he wouldn't have it any other way.

Seems the third hunter group wasn't doing as well as Symone had thought. Catching prey is optimal, but teamwork is the lifeblood of a wolf pack, and if animosity between its members is left to breed, it will beget terrible offspring.

A Pupsitter at heart, Hatua is saddened that Casias bares his teeth at any disagreement. He knows the wolf is young and still adjusting, and hopes that with some time he'll calm down. Though perhaps reporting to Symone wasn't such a good idea - even if Casias has significantly mellowed out, it seems done out of fear than true self reflection. Still, perhaps this is an opportunity, Hatua will do what he can to reassure him.

Céfiro is a "provisory" member of the hunting team, and finds himself protective of the poor thing. But of course he is! Céfiro is under his care now! Hatua spends a lot of time with him in the Sick Den, bringing him water while Methuselah makes the pack's medicines, and tearing his food into smaller chunks if he finds he can't chew so much. It also is nice that he can speak more with Methuselah, the herbalist is great company! Their shared desire to tend to the young and infirm gives them much to talk about.

Hatua's playful demeanor has done little to diminish his natural paternal ferocity. As the new babies tremble and whine at the sight of red skies and the feel of the ground rumbling beneath them, Hatua is there to calm them. While Carpenter is making use of his nurturing power to make the home a proper fortress against all elements, Hatua and Felic guard the pups fearlessly, keeping them safe, fed, and soothed.
