Hazel was befriended by Pack Leader Vixen and brought into the Nightglow Pack. Initially, she worked as a Pupsitter, but the role did not fulfill her. So, once the pups she looked after were old enough, another pupsitter took over and she became a hunter, joining the Setout party as a Chaser and Finisher.
Soon, Hazel became pregnant by the pack's breeding male, Sunshine, and because of this, she had to take leave from hunting. Her role was taken over by the newly adult Calder, this prompted the idea to create a second hunting party, Journey, and to have a balance of ages and experience in both groups. Calder would remain in Setout, but Hazel and Meles would found Journey.
As the only two members of Journey, Hazel and Meles spent an increasing amount of time together, soon falling in love and becoming mates.
