Fallow Fern has a penchant for finding useful herbs, even at a young age. A sharp sense of smell also helped her sniff out any sickness or injury on her packmates, even if they were not visible at an initial glance. She became adept at mixing different plants to different medicines to help heal sick packmates. However, when a seasonal sickness started to spread between her packmates, she was split between healing them and raising her pups. Despite her efforts, the sickness claimed not only a couple of packmates but also her own young pups. Heartbroken and blaming herself for her split duties, she swore to never again take a mate and have pups, but to solely focus on being an herbalist. She left her pack on a journey to find more herbs and to heal, for her old pack now had too many painful memories.
As she traveled over the lands, Fallow Fern discovered many different herbs that she had never seen before. She helped out injured and sick wolves on her journey, but didn't feel satisfied staying in one place for long. However, one day she stumbled on a pair of wolves, both barely at adult age. They were injured, so she stopped to help heal them. When it came time for her to leave however, she felt herself drawn to them since they reminded her of her lost pups, so she decided to stay with the pair. Over time, she became not just a trusted herbalist but also a mother to the pack.
