Undertow

Pine Grove has its fair share of oddities. Perhaps you've realized that already. Even without running into Beast or Hallow, you'd sense it in the air--a sort of charged static, something ready to burst. Maybe it's Beast, dark and twisted thing that he is, inches from snapping and ruining everything. Or maybe it's Hallow, and her connection to this mysterious "Nyx".

Or maybe it's the waterlogged apparition that accosts you late in the night.

The dread you feel upon realizing you are not alone, and then realizing that you are still the only living thing here, doesn't even remotely compare to the emotions that wash over you when you realize that she's... familiar.

As she stands some distance away, watching, you feel as though she's been lost, taken from you somehow. Faelcu, perhaps, judging by the wisps dancing in your periphery. Or maybe something more mundane, a cold body stuck under the tide, sucked under while fishing.

You can't be sure. You begin to approach her, and all at once, she vanishes—taking the wisps and other ambient lights with her and plunging you into darkness.

You ask the pack the next morning. Undertow, they call her. Like Beast, she doesn't speak, though even Beast at least possesses some ways of communication. Undertow never even tries. She also doesn't hunt the way Beast does, but there have been reports of puppies claiming she guided them away from the water's edge when they were alone.

When you say you think you know her, they laugh. "That's what everyone says," you're told. "Maybe we all knew her, once."
