Luba was born in the outer expanse of the Prairie known as Darkvalley Prairie to the Pack, not too far from Darkvalley Pack's own territory. Her mother was a full-blooded gray wolf, while her father was a half-wolf, his own father being a full coyote. Her father disappeared soon before her birth, leaving her mother to raise her only pup alone. Later, her mother took on a new mate who also joined with his brother, both full wolves, leaving Luba believing she was all wolf. As she grew up, she was smaller and weaker than an average wolf pup, and grew frustrated with her lack of strength. She was always defeated in tussles with her wolf pack and was teased constantly by her stepfather and his brother. Her mother just seemed to watch, hesitant to expose Luba's coyote heritage to any of them. When she and her uncle were patrolling a rocky edge of the territory, they ended up encountering a band of coyotes. Luba hadn't seen one before, but noticed how she resembled the canids. Her uncle gave a snide remark, revealing Luba's coyote blood and insulting her for it, before pushing her into the coyote pack. He had learned this after following and overhearing Luba's parents in a clearing late at night, talking about her father's identity. Her parents arrived on the scene upon Luba's distress call, thwarted the coyote pack, and were shocked by his behavior, and Luba's mother jumped at his throat in a rage, dispatching him messily. Terrified at the bloodshed and confused about why her ancestry was hidden from her, the yearling Luba fled the territory. In a search for a new Pack, she met a wolf pack leader named Law in a territory buffer zone, and the male offered her a place in the Pack. Still shaken, she accepted the offer and followed him into Darkvalley Pack territory. The Pack gladly took her in, and she found her place as a Hunter.
