Lovelace joined the Pack in her puphood as the sun was setting on Law's reign, as one of the few youngsters in the Pack at the time. Seeking a young successor, it seemed possible that she was the first on the aging Leader's radar for the next in line, despite her insolent personality that rendered her a bad choice in the eyes of some of her Packmates.

On the night that Law came before the Pack to announce his successor, the new yearling Lovelace was thrown into the role, despite whispered objections and private meetings held with the old Leader, questioning his decision but not swaying his mind successfully. Perhaps he saw a boldness in Lovelace, seeing an assured young wolf unafraid to speak her mind or protect her Pack. Upon his passing, she took his spot, with the confidence of a qualified Leader, though without the skillset to match. Many doubted her leadership due to her young age and total lack of experience, and the Herbalist, Tarragon, who constantly treated her wounds following lost battles was among her strongest doubters, seeing a cocky young wolf who boldly entered fights she couldn't win, all bark and no bite, even against the weakest of opponents.

As a result of being put in a Leader position so young and inexperienced, she had to build up all her skills and experience during her Leadership rather than before, slowly working to build the faith of her skeptics. Tarrgon's silent resentment withered over time as the Leader proved herself more capable of her rank, and she has shaped more into what the former Leader saw in her.
