Secondary Accounts with restrictions

Secondary Accounts with restrictions

Hello, as a long time player of Wolvden I have noticed various different complaints, gripes, and concepts that other players have had that could be solved with the implementation of a side account feature.

The idea is to have the ability to create a side account that is linked to your main account. This side account would have a different lead, hoard, wolf counter, and would need to be manually rolled over separately from the main account. The main reason WD doesn't have side accounts allowed is because it would obliterate the economy and give an unfair advantage to people with more time to play beyond what casual players could catch up to. To prevent economic collapse if a side account was implemented it would need to have various restrictions.

Why have side accounts at all if they're so hard to implement?
Many players have invested a lot of time and energy into this game and their packs. However, the general game play loop of WD doesn't change much and leads to players wanting to shake up their playstyle for various reasons. Players who want to do this are often discouraged because it would mean a. restarting a pack they enjoy and spent a lot of time working on or b. bloating their pack to an unmanageable size to have their normal pack and a challenge pack. Players also want a side account so they can freeze wolves. Freezing wolves is very useful, but almost impossible for most players as it requires knowing someone who will not only log in for you but who has an abandoned account. A side account would also make it easier to do a soft reset of your account.

Possible Balancing Tricks
1. No access to public trades or raffles.
The only trading capabilities secondary accounts have would be a set number of gifts per day / week they can send to their main account.
If players wanted to get GC or SC via the TC on their second account they would first send a wolf to their main account, sell it there, then gift the money made from the sale back to their side account
2. Reduced or no ability to participate in events.
Events are time intensive and offer high value rewards. One way to prevent gaming the market or causing things like event bases to become devalued would be preventing or partially preventing participating in events.
The measures to do this could range anywhere from fully preventing players from interacting with events on their side account, limiting the amount of event currency side accounts can get, or restricting what items can and cannot be bought.
3. No daily roll over reward
4. No quests
5. Certain number of rollovers needed to create a second account
6. Some system that shows what is a secondary account and what is a main account, as well as which secondary belongs to who.
7. More expensive pack slots so it is not so easy to have lots and lots of frozen wolves
8. Limited number of hunts/scouts/forages per day
9. Full use of the TC but only allowed a set number of sales and purchases per month
10. Shared hunting / event currency collection counters for main and side accounts

I'll be checking back on this suggestion to add UI mock ups and balancing suggestions as well as possible extra features. If you have any suggestions for this I would love to hear them and I would also love your opinion on the currently listed balancing tools that could be implemented.

I was also thinking about something like this. I was thinking though - what about shared hoard and currency?
For me, the important thing is being able to explore more (that is a mechanic i love about wolvdens sister site) and breed different projects that don't match my pack theme - i.e. having warm and muted wolves, white i have only cool/monochrome pack currently.
I think having joined hoard/currency/events(?) would balance the issue with getting twice the rewards. My idea is having also joined quests/rollover rewards, just all stuff giving you items out of the ordinary hunting/scouting/exploring/foraging loop. I.e. in cataclysm event, you'd still have same reputation, same daily limit - if you do mission on one account, it counts to the overall missions on both accounts and gives you event currency that's shared.
This wouldn't make the market/economy too different, i believe, and would help out players that want a side account, for whatever reason other than purely "yes i'll get double the event rewards". Fully support this suggestion, I hope it could be done eventually!

Would a secondary pack fill the same need? Right now, we have a pack tab and a user tab. A second pack could be a third tab on that page. Someone who wants to make a second pack could pick a wolf from their first pack to send on a quest after they meet certain requirements.

I think it might work, yeah. Well, although the rollovers should be different on each pack, so you're still able to "freeze" your wolves, e.g. send wolf you want frozen to the second pack and not rollover on there for however long you need.

I like this and greatly support. I've had to give up on a few projects since i had a hard time better managing and sorting through everyone. I'd be fine with restrictions so long as we have some sort of 2nd account or a way to keep wolves that are needed 'forzen' for a bit. T^T

It took A Lot for me to cull my pack to reset them which i still hate but i had no way to better organize without freezing wolves or sending them elsehwere so this would help. A lot. ~

I like the second pack option too. Of course freezing wolfes has to be regulated diffrently though, but you would be able to have a challenge/breeding project pack. It would be great for lore purposes too as your packs are enemies. Perhaps some frozen slots like territory and immortal slots could be a solution for the wolf freezing problem?

this! i really like the concept you described, so i hope the developers at least consider it. on my account, i play freely. and don't get me wrong, it's fun, but a few months ago i found out about others playing in "hard mode" and that caught my interest if i'm gonna be honest. but i can't do that on this account, so it would be nice if second accounts were allowed in some way or another :]

No support. Extremely strong preference for one account only.

Wolvden takes enough time to play each day and this just makes it take longer. I rarely play Lioden, in part, because of having to manage two accounts. Secondary accounts instill a gameplay advantage if any transfer is allowed and are therefor incentivized.

While I support this this has alot of extra coding to go into it, and it would be a challenge to get those to be implemented. It might be a huge challenge for the devs to create this UNLESS they used a tala quest line or something stating, "you have done a great job with your pack so far, how about we help out another get started" or something along those lines. I personally just would love more tala questlines in general though

I love @ Mrnnki's suggestion too! Having another tab where another pack can be held would be cool - i do think it should be one that needs to also be rolled over so if people want to use it as a way to freeze wolves they are able to

I support with the idea that the side account does have restrictions that dont crash the economy! I would love to have a mini pack to hold any Immortals or to freeze a future stud/lead until they are needed, or for that packs Hoard to hold stuff I want to save and not be tempted to use. In addition the idea that your secondary account can't participate in events is a fantastic idea! Plus like what the poster above me says, it would make sense that you would need to complete something in order to even open another one. I think another good restriction would maybe be to allow them to have a breeding male but to restrict them from being a public stud, to limit to market more for primary pack studs and to make private projects easier!
