Allow All Males to Breed within the Pack

Posted 2020-11-03 13:36:34

I honestly opened this, thinking I would hate it because it would be game-breaking. But surprisingly, I think I could throw tentative support here.

There need to be more limitations on this, but this is the start of an interesting idea to bring more want back for male and female wolves and allow more than one goal at a time. Maybe the current balance was by design, but I'm hesitant to believe that. It's more likely designed to prevent someone from mass breeding the best wolves over and over in a pay to win style.

  1. Not every male in the pack, only a limited number of them or some level restriction before they qualify.
  2. Non-studs males should have a breeding cooldown just like the females do. I don't care about reality. In this case, I care more about maintaining balance.
  3. Non-stud males and (possibly females) should have a cooldown to breed regardless of where you get them from. Trade/NBW/Etc to prevent traditional style breedings from being abused. (I know this won't be popular)

There may be more needed, but I cannot think of them right now. I know my add-on to this suggestion is very restrictive, but I believe it is easier to loosen up the rules. Then it is to restrict them on this. I'm very open to discussing any of these limitations, too, if someone sees a flow.

I don't like males being useless. I support this. I read through some pages and a lot of what people suggested as far as cool downs and fertility for males seems really fun and interesting. I also feel like "mass breeding" isn't a real issue as this is a sim game where that is the point.

I full support the original post!

I'd love to have wolves I see as mates be able to have pups on their own. It would also definitely help out with inbreeding.

Strongly support,
This has been something that's bothered me from the get go, especially with the claimable from the tutorial, while nothing to stud out to others he would make adorable pups within my own pack. This has been what's been preventing me from delving much deeper into lore than I would like as most of the game play has become "ope gotta farm the SC to get that slot + stud fee!" I would absolutely be fine if there were limits on nonstud males, like cooldowns, littersize contraints just to be able to have a little more freedom.

I don't disagree with your 2nd and 3rd (except so far you have to a number, something in the ballpark of 8-10, I forget, days for a NBW to go into heat as is, simply start males with the same cooldown too) points @Jill but I don't see how the 1st would matter with limited Den space.

Every male you have is one less litter of puppies you can have in your den. Scouting is quick for level gain so that would be too easy to overcome in a few days if you wanted. And a number limit is just a slightly less restrictive, but same system we have now. As we have no item (right now) that can bypass or lower the cooldown after breeding you couldn't really abuse it easily so your 1st seems unnecessarily limiting on males. Assuming they have the same cooldown after breeding as females. And the trading cooldown would over all make the official studding more useful if you aren't using your own males for a specific purpose.

If I am missing your logic for the first point, I'd genuinely be interested in elaboration if you are interested.

Yeah, I'm very into this. I'm also a lore person and just flavor-wise it's pretty off that it's just the one dude who can breed. I feel like you've made some really good points and I think this could be something added to the game a ways down the road, as a restricted option (folks have suggested a level requirement, or maybe like breeding male slots? I prefer level though, personally)

I almost feel like even if we allot maybe two breeding males and put additional slots in the Grove I'd be happy with that.

I support 100%

While I myself prefer to make hunting parties consisting of males, it has been bothering me that they can't breed with my females.

Point number 1; I would like every male in my pack to be able to breed
Point number 2;That's fine with me, maybe not as long as the females, but I would be okay with a small/short cooldown on the males.
Point number 3; is one that worries me too, trading wolves back and forth with other players to get fresh blood, so I support there being a restriction on that.

All in all, I think one Breeding Male and all other males able to breed just within the pack would be a superb idea!

A big yes! I mostly come from a dog-showing/breeding sim, so I am very used to being able to use all my males, but here... it obviously has much more diversity but lots of room for pretty ugly results. I have some beautiful males but I don't want to have to change their sex just to pass on their colors and stats.

I liked the suggestion of having a level limit. I also had side discussions of being able to have multiple breeding males, like one breeding male per 5 territory slots. With still retaining a limit on number of breeding males, people will be selective on who to pick (with the same mechanisms as the current breeding male to discourage constant switching of males). Or, if someone truly wants more breeding males, they will buy more territory slots, which could mean more Grove purchases if they're willing to.

I majorly support, though perhaps make it where you have 'breeding slots'? That way not every single male can breed all the time but you can have a few breeding males that you love as can expand slots just like you can with territory. That way if someone wants only 2 breeding males, then they have them. Or if someone wants 10 breeding males, they can have them. Not only that, but make it where you can remove breeding males.
