Allow All Males to Breed within the Pack

Posted 2020-11-07 20:08:53

this gets rid of the entire concept of the game as a whole.

Breeding is supposed to be a grind, and it's supposed to be valuable. Studs will lose all value this way, and the marking/base market will crash.

That's not the concept of the game, tho. It's a carry over from lioden.

Breeding will still be a grind, and will still be valuable. Keeping more males means keeping LESS females, which means less overall packs. The more pack space is taken up with males, the less litters you can have.

@Malvolio, every concern you stated has been addressed.

1. "this gets rid of the entire concept of the game as a whole. "

No it doesn't. The devs themselves said they would like to distinguish Wolvden from Lioden, and the breeding mechanics here are clearly a remnant of the latter, because this is not how wolves work.

2. "Breeding is supposed to be a grind,"

It will continue to be. More males in a pack means less females, which means less litters and less puppies. Add to that female heats and male cooldowns and breeding will actually be MORE of a grind.

"3.
 it's supposed to be valuable."

The male pup values will increase. Their markings will be more valuable. Market value of pups will increase with less pups.

4. "
Studs will lose all value this way, and the marking/base market will crash. "

Studs will not lose all value because the non-studs breeding will be WITHIN the pack. Rare markings will still be limited if you can't find/buy a rare male wolf. People will always want to stud, if not for the markings, then for the bloodlines staying clean. Furthermore, many people are already offering practically full refunds for the use of their studs. The stud market is already ruined.

Yet lioden has this same problem with only one stud, so its perfectly fine there? No matter what there will always be desaturation of a market, its unavoidable in any game market ever, its even unavoidable in real life, but that doesn't necessarily mean people should be forced to play one way just because it would harm a very very very tiny percent of the population. Not to mention the current system incentives people to have an all female pack. So say someone has 100 slots all filled by females, thats 100 litters and even more pups, so how does hoarding an all female pack and mass breeding them not hurt the market, but having an equal number of males and females, thus less litters and pups being born, does because now theres actually a reason to keep males and not just trade them out for females that can fill their roles AND breed? If anything having males be breedable will encourage people to keep a more level number between the two and thus there will, overall, be less females per pack bred and bringing more pups. Nobody is suggesting to remove studs, studs will still have their place and necessity, and again, MAJORITY of players won't even use the studding system, only that 1%, maybe 2, will get anything significant off studding anyways. We aren't asking for any male to be bred out, it would be contained within your own pack with limitations. This way nobody is FORCED into playing one way.

Breeding should be a grind, but is it really a fair grind if only 1 gender is ever useful for it? I personally don't think so.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of good studs that'd get potential use on the market are already stuck with no value due to how they can't be bred in the first place w/o paying a heavy price to do so (ie retiring old breeding male early, which is not something that can be undone and is very expensive.)

Yes, and this isn't lioden. Males aren't supposed to be useless, and pups and equal gender.

Support. I left Lioden because of that one breeding male rule (I understood why but it's pain in the butt for gameplay). I was hoping that this will be different because the wolf pack isn't as strict as the lion pride. I really hope this will be added.

I know I've already said something but I want to say more, ig.

I suggested the idea of a minimum amount of breeding males just so there were more potential options, and I do prefer males just having cooldowns. I really support this, it makes no sense for only one male being able to breed, especially if you can have up to 200 wolves!

I see someone else saying they left Lioden because of the one breeding male rule, and I did the exact same thing. I thought I remembered whenever Wolvden was in development, the devs said on their Tumblr that you could breed with any male in the pack. I may be wrong about that or maybe they just scrapped that idea, but I really think they should implement it into the game because it adds so many more options for the players for lore, breeding, genetics, and just makes it feel more realistic since multiple males do breed in one pack irl. I fully support this idea!
