Allow All Males to Breed within the Pack

Posted 2020-11-10 09:42:01

I was unsure at first, but the points brought up by other people supporting this have convinced me enough to support.

To summarize what I think and to not sound like a broken record parroting what everyone else has said,I'm fine with any kind of solution that isn't locked behind a GC paywall, and that there is something to balance the game out.

I support this idea. I male are almost useless for now. Why have a male to do a role when you can have a female able to breed instead ?

Absolutely agree @Ryzzack. I know the counter argument is that females regen energy slower when their pregnant but it barely any slower and it has never impeded me nor have I felt like I missed out on anything because of the slightly slower regen. Just nest them on the last day before bed (or however it works in your time zone) and you don't loose anything by having all females.

I specifically go out of my way to keep males for lore reasons because I don't want a harem but it is absolutely more effective gameplay wise to have 1 breeding male and the rest of your pack female.

I definitely agree! As it stands now, despite having male wolves able to do everything females can do, the demand is far too similar to Lioden currently purely because the non-breeding males can't breed. This will give more people reason to keep their males around, and help more with inbreeding issues for the players who want to avoid it at all costs.

I am all for this, and I admit it is for lore purposes. My Alpha, for example, has a dedicated mate that I don't want to set as my stud, because I don't want him breeding with others. I would love to have the ability to let some of my pairings have a pup or two of their own that grows up to surpass them in aiding the pack. I don't really care about mass breeding projects, and the only reason I do have a stud is for some income. I don't think letting your other males breed only within your pack would take away from wanting a stud, especially if you are after special combos, high stats, or diversity.

Personally I'm only befriending females now, with the only males being from when I didn't know much about breeding, I feel like males are practically useless since I can only breed one of them :(

I do wish males had more uses. I wouldn’t necessarily say all males can breed, but at least maybe a Stud Breeding Male and a “Private” Breeding Male who is specific to your pack only.

Like Cerf said, I really only befriend females because the males don’t really sell, and if I don’t plan to sex-change them or make them my breeding male (super unlikely), there’s no real reason for me to befriend a male wolf when a female can do all the same things AND have pups too.

Even if it were that males had a male-specific thing they could do, not necessarily breeding, then they’d have more value to most players.

Not only would adding a gender specific role not help imo, it would honestly just feel like a slap in the face. There are two options to that

1. Its a role that isn't really necessary, thus I'd ignore it all the same

or

2. Its a dire role which FORCES me to use males who still can't breed and take up territory space because this was the idea of a "fix"

The first option would upset me, but the second would honestly drive me away from WD as a whole

@Chirp

The thing is that it's arguably a waste of resources to invest in a male wolf when their base, markings, and stats - no matter how hard you have to work to attain them - can never be passed on to a future generation. So giving them a new male-exclusive job wouldn't suffice, as they'd still be dead-ends genetically. That's the crux of the issue.

Since breeding is such a big part of this game, having wolves that simply just can't participate in it is really frustrating. I agree with people here who're saying that the current system forces everyone into a playstyle that is limiting and lore-unfriendly. I really hope we'll see changes to it... especially since it's not realistic in the slightest for wolf packs to be huge harems.

I mean - if you want your pack to be a harem, that's fine - but people should have the freedom and flexibility to choose, is what I'm saying.

I would be interested to know whether one of the developers reads this through or whether it gets lost in the mass of topics.

They wanted to stand out from the mother game. Here comes the chance!

I would definitely support the possibility that each male can mate.

It's sad, but that's how I do it. I see males, I keep walking. A male is born, I chase it away.
