"Stop talking," I mumbled, walking in silence before hearing a slight rustle in the undergrowth. Freezing, I lunged towards the fern bush without hesitation, shoving my head in I came face to face with large, menacing black eyes(a mouse). Shrieking in fear, I jumped back, tripping over my tail and falling to the ground. |

Nightwing resisted the urge to burst out laughing. "Shellpaw, *snort* that was a mouse *giggle* which is prey!" Nightwing calmed down. "The lesson is to not walk into random bushes." |

"I know that," I snorted, ear tips burning with embarrassment as I climbed to my paws. "Now, where's the birds? I'm going to catch one on my first try and show everyone back at camp!" |

"First we're gonna work on the basics, though I'm sure you'll be able to catch a bird today if you pay attention." Nightwing started, "Firstly, I want to take a look at your hunting crouch, go ahead and demonstrate." |

I dropped into a crouch, trying to mimic what crowpaw had showed me a few moons ago. Pressing my chin down to the ground, I spread my forepaws to make it less awkward, drawing my back legs closer, which forced my butt higher, and keeping my belly pressed against the ground. Taking a step forward, I nearly toppled over but managed to regain balance. |

Nightwing watched the apprentice. It seemed as though he was trying to hard- probably trying to mimic what he saw before. "Here, let me walk you through it." Nightwing said. He crouched down, making sure his body was even. "First, crouch down so that you feel comfortable. Your body tells you where the perfect height is." |

Standing, I sank back into a more comfortable crouch, though this time my legs were spread out more. "Like this?" |

"Perfect! Now, try to spread your weight out evenly, making sure no paw is heavier than the other. Don't worry, this usually takes a couple tries to get." Nightwing closed his eyes and balanced his body, feeling his body weight even out. |

I nodded, brow furrowing with concentration as I tried to spread my weight out. Taking a step forward, I winced as I wobbled slightly, I took another step, and another. A quick lap around nightwing and I was no longer unsteady. "I did it!" I chirped, rising to my full height and lifting my tail high with pride. |
