Ulke smirked at the idea of hitting the door with his staff and having its old hinges turn to dust, but he knew it was just a fantasy. He crouched down beside the lock and attempted to pick it but found that he was right, the lock proved vexing and unable to be picked at that time.

He sighed, "...brain fight it is, sorry." he glanced back up at her somewhat apologetically and stood straight again, though he brightened up to say, "maybe Us will be among them? or maybe they'll let up through with no issues..."

A shrug before following her toward the seemingly fleshy maw of the wreck, ready to defend himself should the need arise.

"Oh well... it's nothing we don't already know we can handle." Caesy says as she adjusts her grip on her longsword in preparation for a fight. They had handled the imps and that hellsboar while on a ship that was quickly losing altitude. If they could survive that then a couple of intellect devourers wouldn't get the best of them. Ulke seemed capable with his staff and she had her sword should the tenuous peace between them the little monsters be broken now.

"I don't know... maybe. I suppose we'll find out soon enough. I can see three of them up ahead." She says. It was hard to tell them apart from one another. So maybe one of them was indeed Us. She wasn't sure what to make of the strange little thing. Something seemed off about the little fellow. None of the others had made any attempt to reach out in the way Us had.

If they were lucky, maybe they wouldn't be attacked. But she wasn't about to lower her guard until she could be certain that they were indeed safe. When that would happen she wasn't sure.

Ulke nodded in agreement and once the elves found themselves within perception of the intellect devourers, it was all too plain. They both did not have Us among them and would not just let them through. Speedy little things they were, they skittered right up to the duo and attempted to cut them down.

For their efforts, they were ended by stronger hands, leaving Caesy and Ulke in the center of the ruined chamber with a couple different directions to go. Out the larger opening was a dock and pathway, another led further towards the cliffs and rocks but it was an equally viable path.

"Hopefully that'll be the last battle for today. It's only morning still and yet it feels like it should be much later." Caesy says, stowing her sword in it's scabbard. She wasn't sure how long they had been on that ship, but there was no doubt that they had both likely been through the wringer lately. She just had no recollection of what brought her here, not prior to the ship anyway.

"Though the question of which path to take remains even so." She says. If they headed for the cliffs, it would probably take them further from the wreckage. Though having access to water likely wouldn't hurt either, which the docks would provide ample access to. So many unknowns remained. But once they got out of here, perhaps things would become clearer.

Given the opening toward the water was wider, looked more well trodden, and had less fire to the sides of the it, Ulke gestured that way.

A few crates they passed had some picking tools and a helmet, further up the path they heard a masculine voice calling for assistance.

Ulke's ears perked, what luck! A local already? He glanced to Caesy excitedly and took the lead to reach the pale elf.

"Hurry! I have one of those... brain things cornered." the elf looked to some thick brush beside the path. "You can kill it cant you? Like you killed the others?"

Ulke nodded "We can." he began to move closer with his staff at the ready.

Caesy's ears twitch slightly as the bushes rustle. That sounded too big and cumbersome to be an intellect devourer. "Hold on just a moment. Something is not-" she starts only to be cut off as a wild boar comes charging out of the bushes. So it wasn't an intellect devourer after all. It would almost be a relief if it weren't for the glint of sunlight on metal.

A dagger she notes as she crosses her arms over her chest. "If this is a robbery, you're off to a bad start" she says dryly. She had precious little he could take. She wasn't sure what Ulke might have on his person. But nothing was getting stolen today.

She really didn't want this to turn into a fight if it could be avoided. And so she makes no move to reach for her weapon, yet anyway. For now she would give this newcomer the benefit of the doubt.

Ulke notes the dagger too late and freezes as the pale elf glares at Caesy.

"I just need information. I saw you on the ship. You're in league with them, arent you? Those tenta-!" He cringes and his free hand goes to his head.

Much the same, Ulke and Caesy feel a painful throb that leads to pictures, or memories, from unfamiliar eyes in an equally unfamiliar place. The streets are busy and its dark until a light appears and a strike of fear hits before the worm relents and they are able to control their minds once more.

The pale elf for his part seems shaken and confused as he asks what's going on. Ulke wipes the sweat from his forehead and mutters distractedly that it must be the worm, his brows knitting in worry.

"The worm, of course," says the pale elf, "that examine things, somewhat..." suddenly his attitude changed, a smile growing on his face, much more calculating that Ulke's, "and to think, I was ready to decorate the ground with your innards. Apologies."

Ulke seemed surprised he'd admit such a thing so openly, he glances to Caesy to see what she thinks.

Caesy brings a hand up to her temples, rubbing them absent-mindedly. Whatever that tadpole was doing in there, it wasn't helping the ever present migraine that had a chokehold on her senses. The newcomers new admission pulls her from her reveries. Strange fellow... isn't he she muses. Not that she could blame him. Had the situation been in reverse, she might have done the same.

She didn't much like the way he was smiling. There was something about it that made her feel uneasy in a way. It was much too much like her own gaze... cold and calculating. As though he was sizing them up. Another thing she noted, he had fang-like teeth too. They were different from her one, more narrow like what she would have expected to see on a bat or a snake. Perhaps it was more common place than she thought.

She turns her head slightly as Ulke glances in her direction. "I suppose I might have done the same were I in your shoes. Provided you keep that dagger away from either of our throats I would be willing to let bygones be bygones" she says finally. She wasn't sure what to make of him. But he was outnumbered if he tried anything and though he was a good six inches taller than she was, she didn't worry about that.

Ulke nods in agreement and glances back to the elf whos smile becomes a smirk. "My names Astarion. I was in Baldur's Gate when those beasts snatched me."

Ulke took a moment to commit his name to memory before offering his hand to shake, his own smile returning to appear non threatening, "Ulke Onri." simple but not curt. When Astarion then glanced to Caesy, Ulke added, "I'll not presume to introduce a lady without her say so..." also looking to her, seeing whether she'd prefer to introduce herself, allow Ulke to do so, or, if she was feeling disinclined, not doing so at all.

"I wouldn't take offense if you did. But nonetheless, I appreciate being granted the autonomy." Caesy says, her mismatched gaze calmly drifting between the two. It was surprising to have found another survivor of the crash. But she supposed the more heads they put together the better their chances would be.

"Caesy... please to make your acquaintance." She says in turn to the newcomer. Astarion she now knew was his name. He too had not put forth a surname. It was almost a relief seeing as she had no surname to put forth for herself. Not that she could recall anyway. But surely she had to have one. And a family somewhere. Everyone did, did they not?
