[  building profits  ]

how can i profit by selling food?

if you have a surplus amount of food, take a look at your hoard and sort by 'uses descending' in the food tab. large carcasses (like the ones that come up first) are loved by the trading center— they're convenient and rely on less clicking for the user. typically, since i like to keep my pack small, i feed my wolves small carcasses and save the large ones for the trading center at a rate of 100 uses per 1 gc.

if you don't have a lot of large carcasses, you've either been feeding them to your children, or need to explore/hunt more efficiently.

consider stocking up & exploring a lot in winter. many biomes will have encounters with large animals that you can memorize and get 12+ use carcasses pretty regularly. the market has an uptick in food prices in winter due to struggling packs— use this to your advantage (or donate some food in giveaway chat if you're feeling nice). hey, a bit of both never hurt anybody!

what if i have small or rotting carcasses left over?

the raccoon is your best friend. sell eggs, dead fish, meat chunks, rodents, and birds to him. ideally, you want this trash panda's nonexistent pockets drained by the end of every rollover to make 2-5 gc weekly. it may not seem like a lot, but remember: these items are hard to want

how can i profit by selling amusement?

never, ever sell amusement items to the raccoon. he falls from grace quickly and becomes a lowly scammer when feathers, bones and shells are involved. sell them on the trading center at a rate of 50-100 uses per 1gc, and shred your single-use toys into amusement scraps when needed.

how can i profit by selling lunar applicators?

here's a tip that i forget to follow myself: if you look at the trading center, marking applicators & base applicators sometimes sell for the same amount of gc despite marking applicators costing half the amount of lunar tears during the event. just something to keep in mind!

this (sometimes) applies to eye applicators, too. nose/skin/claws are usually a nightmare to resell, on the other hand

additionally, try to save up for wolvden's 'real-life lunar event' specialties, where they release every single lunar applicator back into the shop.

[  raffles and trades  ]

how do auctions work?

players sometimes like to host unofficial 'auctions' for wolves (and other collectibles) in the forums, allowing others to bid for a set period of time until the wolf is sold. here are four popular acronyms that can help you:

ab: auto-buy. this is usually set high to encourage offers.
sb: starting bid. this is the amount needed for the first entry.
mi: minimum increase. this is the minimum extra currency needed to one-up someone's bid.
cb: current bid. this is the current highest bid on the prize.

i recommend avoiding hosts who refuse to close an auction when unsatisfied with their profits. there are a million ways for them to avoid that outcome without wasting the time of others!

what is a good way to name a trade containing a wolf?

there's no direct rulebook to follow when it comes to naming your trades, nor is there a science to get interest in them— but it's good to be as informational as possible within 50 characters (including spaces).

its generation, base & mutation(s) are usually the 'selling points' and i like to keep them first. stats are an easy number to throw at the end. for anything else, use your judgement!

it is important to note that a lot of players search by keywords and not attributes. make sure you aren't sacrificing keywords in favor of a shortened title. ie. someone looking for a pup with neomenia eyes isn't going to find your trade titled 'g3 lily | neo eyes | 633st' (of course, this doesn't apply to common abbreviations like 'nbw' for new befriended wolf or 'het' for heterochromia).

how do i price check wolves properly?

it's always good to try and check wolves for yourself before asking in the main chat. typically, you'll include their generation, base, and mutation in your search. stats will be especially important to include if the wolf is generation four or below.

if the search yields no results, you'll need to de-specify the attributes (ie. searching for monochrome light t3s instead of argents). if this doesn't work, go ahead and revel in the fact that you have a really rare wolf (after asking the chat for their opinion, of course).

searching for the value of items is much easier— just type its title in the "items" section of the trading center.

i found a trophy, recipe, or similar item that is not on the trading center. is it rare?

the easiest thing to do is to find the item catalogue in crossroads, then search for your item. for example, there are only 49 donkey skulls in existence as i'm typing this, so they must be worth more than the others that aren't yet usable in recipes. cool!

what if i can't find the value of my wolf/item but want to sell it?

if you've exhausted every strategy and still cannot find an accurate idea of what your wolf or item is worth, consider putting a trade up for offers only (no buyout price). take a few rollovers to study what's happening with your trade. how long did it take to get traction?

if your wolf/item sat in the trading center for days with no watchers or offers, but was offered 100sc on the fifth day, then it is probably not worth much and you should feel confident accepting that offer.

now, if your post gets a handful of watchers and an offer of 30gc right away, wait a little as you continue to advertise your trade. if nothing better pops up in a reasonable timeframe (without keeping the offerer waiting), take the amount you were offered as a realistic portrayal of its worth/demand.

keep in mind the number of people watching a trade doesn't matter as much if it has a buyout. some players like to watch overpriced trades for fun & to see if it'll actually sell

my puppies aren't selling despite being cheap. what can i do? 𖤓

sometimes, the enclave is the best option to help the wolvden economy (which will, in turn, help you). even then, there are several hundred puppies being enclaved every single day, and over a thousand on the trading center at any given time being sold for less than 50sc.

this is entirely subjective/optional so please take what i say with a grain of salt— i am aware that breeding is surely the most fun aspect of this game: but if you want to do your part in helping your puppies sell for more, consider contributing less to the 'supply' of the 'demand.' ie. not breeding for every single heat, saving up for prettier wolves & studs, or learning about how to produce good bases/eyes/stats.

plus, doing this will actually save you money. a wolf's amenities are not cheap and can be sold instead. did you know a standard litter of 3 puppies costs 72 uses of food & amusement until adolescence? that's around 2 gc per breeding (depending on the market prices) and that number doesn't even include the pregnancy hunger debuffs, the stud fee, or nesting costs.

should i host a 'winner takes all' or 'standard' raffle?

if you have a lot of small items, a 'winner takes all' raffle style is preferred. however, if you have a handful of larger items, a 'standard' raffle style may work best.

any tips for a successful raffle?

sure! make a cute title. raffles are so much more fun than trades, after all. remember to post a link to your raffle in the sales chat a few times a day. understand the market enough to price your tickets.

if your raffle is full of recipes, craftable decors, or lower value wolves, try to make cheap entries. and even if you're offering amazing prizes, no one likes opening a raffle to see that 90% of the tickets are expensive applicators and niche decors from your wishlist. think of things that a lot of people have that could be nice in bulk: currency, medicine, healing salves, rmas, guarana, trophies, smoky quartz chunks...

note that some players could be turned off by your future raffles if you cancel them, especially without a warning in the description.

[  gameplay  ]

what is the best biome for newbies?

the deciduous forest has the most food, amusement, & herb encounters out of any other starter biome.

where is the best place to send hunts?

hunting medium & large trails in the glacier or rainforest can wield over a thousand exp. however, if your wolves are not already decently leveled or synergized, try the desert or taiga.

how do i find eye/base recipes?

these have a lower drop rate than average decor recipes and can be found in explore or brought back to you by a rescouting scout or foraging herbalist. unfortunately, the trading center prices for these are pretty high, but you can always search the forums for 'crafting services,' most of which will craft your desired item for free as long as you have the ingredients for it!

i made my own css. why doesn't my dropbox link work?

remember to replace https://dropbox.com with https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com and leave the rest of the url as-is

why do so many people have 'lights on' in their username?

this is a popular player-created event around halloween in which you can 'trick or treat' other participants. this is done by leaving a short message in a player's inbox roleplaying as one of your wolves & visiting a wolf in their pack. they can respond by leaving you a gift or 'tricking you' in a roleplay response. after that, the interaction is typically over.

the name 'lights on' comes from a real halloween tradition. keeping your porch light on at night lets trick-or-treaters know that you welcome them!

is it worth it to play the slot machine? 𖤓

if you gave 5,000 spins to the machine and won absolutely nothing but black sage 20 times (the probability being around 0.40% per spin) and resold them for the standard market price of 5gc each, you would cover the cost of every single previous spin without counting any of your other profits— which would be over 1,000 different items & sc bundles from the low, medium, high, and jackpot tiers.

yes, it is profitable

how do i upload images to a post?

a lot of third party image hosts have recently become unsupported due to issues out of wolvden's control. it is sadly no longer recommended to use imgur (although it was the most intuitive) and i have found that imgbb, filegarden & freeimage.host are the most reliable.

if you are trying to host a wolf image or other static wolvden image on a forum post, third party hosting isn't necessary. select the picture you need > right click > open image in new tab > grab the url > click the image button in the html editor (mountain postcard next to the chain links) > insert url between the quotation marks after 'img src.'

how do i find static wolvden images?

while exploring, hunting, or fishing, you can use the 'inspect element' tool on your computer to find the various biome-specific ui images or encounters. to my knowledge, if you want a specific weather, season, or time-of-day effect, you will have to wait until the right conditions to grab the image or search 'wolvden static images' on your web engine to find a few that other players have posted online.

the same may be done in the wolf wardrobe to grab wolf backgrounds, but you'll need to scroll up a bit to find the 'img id="preview-background"' attribute instead of the various blank ones.

lastly, if you are looking for a herb, trophy, applicator image etc you can simply find it in the item catalogue & right-click on its thumbnail to find the static image url.

(please note that these instructions are for html/css or otherwise creative purposes. generally doing shady stuff or stealing wolvden art is wrong & against the tos).

why are custom decors so expensive to buy/create?

the game forces a 5gc fee on all custom decors to go 'back into the game.' this is on top of the price that the creator has set in order to make currency for their work.

i'm sure the 10gc creation fee is to lessen the workload of approval processes— although creating free content for their game is pretty charitable!

how do i post a link in chat?

unlike the forums, you can paste a link in the chat box as-is. it will automatically convert to a clickable link.

how do i reorder my caves?

you can number them or visit the 'sort cave order' section when managing a cave. otherwise, they will be in alphabetical order.
