Bring Mutations Back to the Scrying Stone

Posted 2021-06-09 17:40:06 (edited)

Bumping this because I wish to see random lethals again, recessive also have no reason to be hidden with how Gene works now.

I do not think the Scrying Stone would harm Gene, or anything else for that matter. If people use the Scrying Stone to say their wolf is a carrier people would be less inclined to believe them, and getting the verification isn't expensive considering everything.

I think a big push for this is the random lethals, it is fun and can provide data for those who want to dedicate their time at the Scrying Stone to calculate odds/rates/etc. of breeding. It's also fun to see them show up, along with the recessive VS getting text of this wolf is carrier. I wanna see the possible mutie babies!

Support. I, along with many others, aren't going to pay to check every wolf that comes into my pack for the recessive mutations. Sure, it's only 300 now - but this will be way too costly when we get to the point of having as many muties as LD one day.

It would be nice to have the ability to have a carrier status teased in the scrying Stone while checking potential future pups for a pair. Past issues also wouldn't be too hard to fix - confusion between  certain bases and a mutation. Their were old suggestions to mark muties in scrying that could still be incorporated if this was re-added. Confusion over non-genetic mutations in scrying? Leave those out if the pool and we won't have that issue. These were the only real main issues back then and both have many possible clear and easy solutions.

Support ONLY IF you aren't allowed to advertise carrier status based on scries. I like the certainty of being able to check a wolf's advertised carrier status through the report, and I don't want to go back to the old days of scrolling through screenshots in a wolf's bio and squinting at dark-looking pups. But I think it's fun having muties (even non-hereditary muties) popping up in scries. As Kas pointed out, it'd also be helpful for those trying to calculate rates for the non-hereditary muties.

I kind of have the same opinion as Lionel. I would really only support bringing back muties showing up in scries if it is made to where you cannot advertise said wolf as a carrier based on scries alone.

Support. As a brachy breeder myself, it's costly to Gene-check every single possible carrier pup I breed. Bringing the ability to scry-check would be more cost effective for many other players who breed mutations or want NBW carriers. It would serve as a riskier, lesser-known way of how to tentatively mass check your wolves for mutations.

Also, scrying has never been an approved method of advertising mutation carriers. Hence why if you want to sell a mutation carrier, you can just Gene-check it to confirm, which is why this wouldn't affect any trading aspects. I don't see anyone suggesting a change to that aspect of the system, and I don't think anyone else (including me) wanted a change to that either… so I'm not sure where these no supports are coming from. I don't see an issue with people who fully know the risks of using the old system getting to use it. If you don't like scrying, just stick to Gene.

Additionally huge support for what Kas said, I think lethal mutations should be brought back to scrying. I'd send my support if a separate topic for lethals were to be created. xD

No support I'm afraid. It overall costs about the same to get checked by Gene (it was common to do 4-5 scries per mutation, so 40-50 SC vs the 50 SC flat rate) and when you check with Gene you have it 100% confirmed vs with scrying you can still be unlucky and not have a mutation show up. I don't think a 10 SC profit is really worth it for the potential of missing a mutie.

Scrying for mutations was also a lot easier to scam with - the new version with confirmed carrier status is public, and while there were rules implemented to stop users from faking scries (in fact banning them as evidence entirely when selling) it still happened from time to time. I understand that you may want to use the scying for personal checking of carriers rather than selling, but yet again it's infinitely more reliable to check using Gene.

I agree with Finnfinite. I think I would better to discuss how hard it to get SC. Or lower the cost to get the genes checked.

Old post old
But honestly I use the scry stone to get an estimate for a pairing. Using the 4 possible results as a percentage system. 25% -100% kinda thing but that's what I do
Id love see if the estimate I get might result in a mutie pup but mostly if the pups will be well marked (no potatoe pups) is what I go for.
Just thought I'd share my own process ^ ^;

But I'd support if properly done.

It would be so cool to see lethals in the scrying stone, supported already, might've commented but another comment to add
