Thank you, Websteak, for revealing in detail the "fix" that changed the mechanic of chased NBWs that we now encounter during explore.

I felt quite uncomfortable with this update as I used to look for high stat young chased NBWs for reasons you've already mentioned.

Kitty gave solutions and community seems to be pleased with either letting old wolves have age re-rolled or be removed. I would like old wolves to be completely removed such as pups and adols rather than having them a chance to be found in the pool such as normal NBWs do.

The reason why some chased NBWs seem to be found irritatingly old is because another player chased them at some point. And the only reason I can think of why these would be chased is because some players wouldn't like to witness them dying so they prefer chasing. So they want them removed rather than dying. And if the wolf was considered pretty or valuable, the owner would like to keep them in dynasty to be able to see what great wolf they had. Wolves not worth being stored are chased, those are mostly recycled NBWs which players encountering would like to avoid. So instead of R&C wolves, recycled old wolves take their place in chased pool which decrease overall chance of finding a desired wolf.

So in order to make young wolves appear more frequently, I prefer option 3.

Also, is it really necessary for 5 year being the age at which older wolves start to be affected differently upon chase? Users mainly complained about chased NBWs not being able to be bonded and bred to carry on genetics. I think it'd be fine for 6y8m old wolves to be the maximum there, as these being encountered as chased NBWs are able to be bonded and bred once using full length heat period for their convenience.

@ Dżanek the reason 5 years is being thrown around a lot is because thats confirmed to be the oldest age a NBW can be normally! (didnt get a screenshot of that one but they answered it when we were talking about this in chat) It seems that the devs think thats the oldest "fair" age, and anything past that would already be considered old. If thats what they think for regular NBWs, it's probably what they would think about chased ones- 5 years was their own suggestion for this!

My preferred change would be:

A, for wolves chased under the age of 3, that age be kept the same or re-rolled within a certain number of rollovers

and

B, for wolves chased over the age of 3, that age be re-rolled with a cap of 3 years

or something like that, maybe every wolf gets their age re-rolled with a cap, idk

Edit: I like the second option (rerolling ages for current old chased wolves) best!

Support, and I don't mind which fix option is used (deleting over 5 yrs or rerolling over 5 yrs.) I get a lot of joy from raising well-marked wolves to chase and then seeing which ones made their way to new packs, and seeing people make plans and get excited about such wolves - if I manage to breed a quintuple merle, keep it for 24 days, and then chase it, it would make me sad if it got to a new pack only to have jumped from a yearling to 4 years old, slicing 3 years off its life. :(

As an aside - I also really liked that stat and age weren't connected for chased NBWs. If you're going for stats and low gen in one project, it's really exciting to find a 280 stat 1 year old chased NBW with cool markings, and it has little effect on the game's balance overall. There are so many 280+ wolves at higher generations that removing this has really no net effect other than to make a section of the userbase's chosen playstyle less varied and exciting. Please let that feature return too, if the global age rerolling is reverted!

totally support! as someone who found a 7.5 yr old 10m t2 female a couple months ago, i definitely understand the frustration of getting an older wolf who doesn’t have practical use(though i loved my old girl for lore reasons). however i also understand the excitement when you get a young t2 that was definitely either a failed breeding project or r&c. i think i’d prefer >5yr chased wolves to have their ages rerolled rather than get totally deleted bc there are some nice looking old wolves that’d definitely deserve to get a few extra years if chased and found ;p

full support! option B would be ideal for me

it's bad enough that the stats get rerolled, it definitely put a damper on having fun doing R&C when i read that the same was now also happening to their ages.

someone found a 7yo chased before the change that I ended up adopting and making immortal, incorporating her into my lore, so I don't have a problem with ancient chaseds, provided they weren't already that old when they ended up being chased, but i can definitely see why some people might, especially if they've got more markings/higher tier than the one i've got

Like user #8977 I would like Option B for the same reason they expressed: it's bad enough stats reroll and the age always rerolling as well is disheartening, to say the least.  We deal with enough RNG completely out of our control (battles, breeding marking pass rates [2 10 marking parents producing 2 marking offspring, anyone?]) and chasing a young wolf was such a good way to "give back" to the system as OP mentions.

I will also say previous to the random age change for chased befriendable wolves, I encountered a 7 year 5 month wolf I chased off again. Before that, I encountered a female wolf at 6+ years (at least 6 years age) that I kept, did not attempt to level and breed, simply allowing her to live out her life peacefully in my pack.  So, I'm hinting that Option B is a great middle ground, in my humble opinion.

Full support for option 2 from me. It was very disheartening to think the pups I'd spent so much time & effort raising to send out into the wild for people to find were being re-rolled to much older.

If Option 2 isn't possible for some reason I'd rather see it move to the auto-delete of Option 3 than remaining the way it now is.
