Make Herbalist Stats Matter

Make Herbalist Stats Matter

Greetings!

I would like to suggest changing the formula for reduction of time of foraging and crafting medicine which would depend on herbalist smarts and wisdom, respectively, instead of level.

Time reduction would proceed according to the following formula (explanation below the box):

R=T*(1-1/2S/250)*P

where:
R - time reduction
T - time for completing task normally (60 minutes for foraging, 120 minutes for medicine crafting)
S - herbalist stat points (smarts for foraging, wisdom for medicine crafting)
P - herbalist proficiency (0% is 0, 100% is 1)

Examples of how it'd work:
  • 0% prof. herbalist will take 60 minutes to forage and 120 minutes to craft medicine regardless of stats.
  • 50% prof. herbalist with 250 smarts will take 45 minutes to forage.
  • 100% prof. herbalist with 250 smarts will take 30 minutes to forage.
  • 100% prof. herbalist with 500 smarts will take 15 minutes to forage.
  • 100% prof. herbalist with 250 wisdom will take 60 minutes to craft medicine.

According to notes in Development Update #12, herbalist proficiency and level now contributes to reducing the amount of time it takes to complete foraging missions. This is generally really nice to have foraging time shortened but this change immediately made me raise doubts about stat issue. Currently, stats don't matter for some roles including herbalist and it seems to keep being neglected as level started to become an efficiency factor for pack wolves.

In order for my idea to be implemented, only coding is required from the devs. The values in the formula may be a subject to be changed.

Thanks for reading my suggestion!

Support! I'd love for stats to play a bigger role.

Support! It's always been kinda weird to me that herbalist stats don't matter.

Support! This would be great, especially because herbalists are nearly impossible to get past level 15ish without illness farming or pre-levelling them in another role first. I'm really glad that something affects foraging time now, but it's kind of a bummer to have level be the only important factor for a role that barely levels.

I also agree that it's kind of strange to have a role that actively gains specific stats, but not have them matter at all.

Support!

Stats matter to other important roles, so it's odd that herbalists are left out. The stats they achieve from being an herbalist should be more impactful - or have any impact, really.

Herbalists just don't level. My herbalist's only level 11, and that's because she was a hunter prior. If I'm not mistaken, if you start a 1 year old wolf as an herbalist, they'll be LONG-since dead before reaching level 20. So yeah, definitely weird to have level be the deciding factor instead of stats.

Support! I think having more things rely on stats would be great. While it is nice to have level have an impact on this, I think stats would be better as breeding for higher stats is something that people can actually work towards

Highly support, or at the very least increase the amount of EXP Herbalists get from their jobs so that it's actually POSSIBLE for them to reach level 20 in a timely manner and without use in other roles. My last Herbalist was in her role from when she was born all the way up until she was over 6 years old, and she only reached level 12. It's extremely upsetting and disappointing to see this benefit be given only to level 20 herbalists when it's near impossible to reach level 20.

I didn't realize that level was part of the equation. I saw proficiency and missed the rest I guess. I do think though that with the change they made it might get the level up faster. Mine is only at level 12, but 100% proficient and is taking 38 minutes to forage now rather than 60. So she's bringing back the same amount of experience in much less time. For someone who can do the 30 minute that is best possible that's twice the experience as before. I kind of want to see how that works out before asking them to change though I have no objection to wisdom and smarts stats being in there as well.

Support. Stats can essentially "replace" level in a formula because herbalists gain smarts and wisdom, and those stats are gained quicker when an herbalist levels (given that those are the 2 highest stats for the wolf). So raising stats is around equal to raising level. There's the added bonus of, as a player gets more into the game, their wolves' stats are likely to be higher, just like their hunters will likely have higher stats and they're more likely to live in a harder biome.

Regarding wolf leveling speed: my current herbalist, who is 3yr 8.5mo, has been an herbalist the entire time the update has been in place. She is currently level 12, whereas my previous herbalist died at level 14. So, in my experience, my herbalist levels up faster under the new system. I do go to college and work, however, so if I was able to be on frequently her level would be even higher.

Basically: Yes, I support replacing level with stats. The new system seems to level herbalists quicker but it would be nice for herbalist stats to matter as well.

I will only support if the exp was massively increased for Herbalists. My herbalist is 5 years and 1 month and is only level 10 and making it more stat heavy would probably make people scout their herblists to lvl20 to get more stats first.

Otherwise I am neutral about this.
