Discussion: Feeding & Care Changes

Posted 2021-09-15 08:28:54
I read the post and quite a lot of responses so imma just say, that i enjoy the idea overall esp the rations you get to allow in general

For my tribe lore anyway as my wolves only care about being able to eat given i have to use a dice to determine if they eat or not which is annoying compared to Lioden cuz on there i use the play/tussle/groom thing to determine who ate or not based on if they got certain mood points
e.i. 10+ mood = they eat or under = they don't eat that day
Another thing i have is my Own ranking system where wolves will only get to eat certain things based on the level of their rank.

I also hate not having everyone Do Something so for those who don't do much that day or even anything i have to use my dice to determine if they eat at all. I don't find that very fair but oh well there's nothing on WD that'd help with that part =.=

Still on the FAPA this is awesome and many have some nice ideas. This feature actually being added as a everyday tool that Isn't exclusive to those who pay for it is rather sweet. ^ ^
I do appreciate what the staff does to help make the game better even if some things do take time which is fine so long as the changes Do happen and we're kept in the loop

I just want to add onto the other replies I have read in this discussion, since this is about "Feeding and Caring" changes- I want to say that feeding/playing with all my wolves is incredibly tedious because I have to rely on the TC and exploring the tundra to get enough food, I've gone to not feeding my adols to try to save some food for my adult wolves. This is the most DRAINING part of the game to me, having to frantically search, buy, and hope I get something good from slots to get by. I would just love for you to add more ways to get more food and amusement? Cause at a certain point, feeding all of your wolves becomes draining not just because I have to feed each single one, but just "oh no?? Do I have enough food!??!" Like, I always regret logging in because of this!
It's taken the fun away from me because anything new that comes out, like crafting recipes or trophies, I can't be a part of it cause if I take one step out of the tundra I risk the chance of not having enough food to feed everyone. I've lost so so so many wolves because of this. That's the part thats personally draining for me. Barely scraping by with enough food and amusement.
I sincerely hope you guys look into this! Hopefully this doesn't come across as rude! I'm just stating the issues me and my friends run into in this game.
The processing mechanic also seems promising! Especially if it adds in more trophies and recipes like it says- sounds fun! And also the FAPA mechanic being free would be SO HELPFUL, It takes me like an hour and a half to get through all my wolves so to have it be done and over with in a click would be great! But like I explained, more ways to get food/amusement would be great too!!

I personally really like the idea of the option of breaking down carcasses. Right now I find that it uses the carcasses with the most uses (and the soonest rot time) which is personally irritating because I like to finish off a carcass before moving to the next one (for easier trading, selling, etc).

I really like the idea of breaking down carcasses and finding trophies, items etc., and if people don't want to participate in that for immersion or roleplay making it optional would be a neat idea.

I think potentially one way to balance people who have issues feeding larger packs is when you get to x amount of caves or wolves perhaps allowing for multiple hunting groups to go out at once? I get only sending one at the beginning, but once you have 20+ wolves it wouldn't be immersion breaking to say 10 or so go out hunting at once to bring back more food for the pack.

I originally went to build 3 hunting teams before I realized that there's barely enough time in the day for 2 teams to finish completely.

With the comments of struggling for food: maybe once you reach 40? 50? wolves you unlock one more hunting slot. Meaning you could send out two hunts at once

Finding food hasn't been a struggle so far but I also only have about 25 wolves at the moment and am able to check in frequently to send out hunts, but I think maybe an extra slot for larger packs could be nice, maybe even give the second hunt a longer timer by an hour or so so it's not overly easy

When I got on today, all my wolves were at least 2 days not fed/played with. Some were more neglected. I had to have clicked well over 350 times just to get everyone to 100%. (130 wolves, meaning bare minimum 260 clicks for both food and amusement. Add in the clicking to each stack and individual items, and having to repeatedly care for the very low wolves, and yeah.)

This has always been beyond infuriating and tedious to do EVERY SINGLE DAY, for weeks on end. Feeding and playing is probably the worst part of my WD experience, and I absolutely dread having to rollover and deal with it. So yeah, I appreciate something's being considered. Anything to streamline it is great.

I do have some thoughts on both the main post and people's suggestions:

  • 1 use items should still be available for crafting purposes. I prefer processing to be based on uses instead of the entire item, and you can select how many uses go in. (Or just a checkbox for 'preserve 1 use.')

  • I'd prefer carcasses and amusement to still be usable as is - not made useless. I don't see the point of having them become unusable until processed? It seems an addition that isn't helpful and ruins individual feeding/playing, which I know some players still do. (Either through the wolf's page or giving specific items to specific wolves.) That should still be an option if we choose. It might be better for stuff to be in a stockpile, as has been mentioned a few times. This might ruin the processing concept, but the actual items still have direct use that way.

  • I'm worried too that the processing feature will just be another unnecessary step, negating the entire purpose of it being efficient. If it's going to be implemented, it needs to be an improvement, not replacing one problem with another.

  • Please a different word than process. My wolves are wild animals, not factory workers. Preparing sounds the best suggested so far because it doesn't sound like my wolves are eating tasteless samey unidentifiable mush that's been slapped together.

  • Somewhat similar to the concerns around the term processing, I don't want my wolves to eat the same generic pieces of meat and given 'toy.' That sounds so... ehh. I can't remember who mentioned it, but I saw someone in this thread say that sounds like we're running dog pounds instead of a lively wolf pack. My wolves already blend together in an identical, uninteresting blob due to them not having personalities, I don't want to become more detached from them. Sounds like I'm just kind of hucking previously frozen, unknown-sourced meat chunks at my wolves' faces and walking off to the next cage...

  • I would kill for a butcher/chef/cook role. And maybe also an assistant to the role too. If the processing feature is going to exist for sure, I feel like this should come with it. That would add some interesting aspects to processing, provide more roles that we sorely need, and would just make it more fun overall.

  • I'd like there to be an indicator or way to specifically take care of nursing mothers and pups. That way people can preserve their food/amusement for longer if they need to while still taking care of the wolves that need daily attention.

  • No matter the change to how feeding is done, it would be nice if it was set up in a better way for food closest to expiring. Wolf's pages are like that, and the hoard can sort of be, but you need to manually look at each food item there and back out of the stack to check the next stack, and... it's just a mess.

I have other thoughts about the thread beyond that, but I think I've said enough. Still very grateful this is a change that is being considered.

@Asteros: Would you be able to elaborate on what it is about the new feeding system that you wouldn't like?  Providing feedback would be really helpful for our developers.

I love this idea!!! Personally i think it would be neat if after completing a successful mission your hunters automatically feed on the carcass (if hungry) :3

I don't understand the purpose of this "Processing" ? It turns the meat carcass into meat chunks, with the same number of uses?

It would be wonderful if crafting for decors and nesting materials counted the total number of uses from am item, with the amounts required adjusted as necessary on a case-by-csse basis to keep game balance.

This is a great idea! The current system (where for maximum efficiency you have to use items down to 1 use before crafting) has always seemed kinda tedious/micromanage-y to me (to the point where I generally don't bother and just use up my full use items).
