Arbor: Groups are not integral to the site, you do not need to create a group to advance your gameplay. It's just a "for fun" feature. The resources required to make a group are fairly easy to get via exploring, and making enough GC to create a group isn't too difficult if you sell extra food or items you don't need. One of the benefits of working with other players is gathering resources to start a group, as they're meant to be a social endeavour, so you can ally with others to amass enough currency and items to make a group.

question:

lets say I started a group, and I really only want it for me and a singular player, and i manage to meet the required member amount with players fully aware that they're gonna leave after creation.

when they leave and its down to just the two desired members, will our group shut down? and what exactly is shut off?

Ethere Sh'naur [Xath]: The news post addresses this! Quoting the relevant bit:

"Alongside monthly fees, you'll want to ensure you maintain at least 5 members in your group; otherwise, your group will become inactive. It will not close down, but some features will be unavailable until you reach 5 members or more again. You will not be able to use your group's hoard or bank systems. You will be able to continue using your group's polls and forums even if your group is inactive."
