Another hunter, huh? She tucked that information away with a tiny nod of her head. Nice to have something in common with at least one of them. He, in the few moments Nyx had seen him, seemed nervous and homesick. The young woman carefully slipped into her own feelings for a few seconds, but could only feel that pull to something beyond. She sat down on the edge of the table, crossing her legs underneath her. At the question, Nyx tilted her head again and tucked an offending strand of silver hair behind her ear. "Water," she said simply, without any explanation. She placed the leather-bound book in her lap, shuffling the much brighter, newer scraps of paper deeper into the yellowing sheets. A charcoal pencil was stuck in the middle, keeping her place. Green eyes studied him once more. He liked the dragons and was excited by them. Good, or bad? These were dangerous creatures, and they were not to be messed around with. But liking something could perhaps make you less scared of them. Nyx just hoped the wyvern she would be partnered with would be someone she could work with. She stayed silent, ignoring Kyle, whom she'd seen when they walked in. She remembered Caisin looking down at the ledge, put on his knees, gripping the stone as if something would grab him and pull him down. "Are you scared of heights?" A blunt, to-the-point question. She looked at his expression for a few moments, then said, "I saw you at the ledge earlier." Was he cut out for this? How could one become a dragon rider if one was scared of heights? It was like a swimmer who was scared of water. Fear can push you harder, a little voice murmured. As she waited, her fingers messed with the corners of the pages she had stuffed in the book. They were sketches if the charcoal pencil said anything, as well as the smudges on her fingertips and cheek where she had brushed her hair back. "Well, maybe with a little practice, you might be able to get over your fear." |

Caisin watched as the girl, Nyx, sat back into a seemingly more comfortable position. He was inwardly kind of glad, starting to get uncomfortable at her stern posture, with her intense eyes boring into him. He was slightly disappointed when she didnt elaborate on her brief answer. He was about to ask her about her choice before he was caught off guard by her next statement. "Uh, n-no! I'm not scared of heights!" He stuttered as a flush creeped up his neck, looking away in embarrassment. Oh crap! She saw that! Did anyone else see? Oh jeez thats embarrassing! Shuffling on his feet, wringing his hands together again, he stammered "I'm not really scared of heights, just uh, haha uh scared of falling i guess. Just sorta the drop to certain death you know…" He stated with a weak chuckle as he absentmindedly scratched his head, looking away from her sharp gaze. Very eager to change the subject from its sudden turn, he asked another question. "So do you know any of the other students here? I-I came late so i dont know if i missed anything important from the day before." He said, as he took another look around the room and the other students. |

She smiled lightly at his denial, but it made sense. The falling to death part, anyways. But still, a wyvern wouldn't let its rider fall to certain death, right? Speaking of wyverns... A shriek echoed in, and a tell-tale woosh as one landed. As Neha walked in, forked tongue flicking between her fangs like a snake, Nyx glanced at the storm wyvern, pausing in her conversation with Caisin. Froze when she walked closer. When Neha sniffed her head, Nyx closed an eye, shifting slightly away from that massive head. "Hey, there, Neha," she murmured. Luckily it was over soon, as Neha swung her head to Caisin. "I don't know anyone here, either." Green flicked to his, then back to Neha. "Why were you late?" Perhaps he lives (or lived) farther away? She lifted her hand slightly, slowly in front of Neha. Carefully. Like a wild bird. . . she paused to let the wyvern sniff her hand. |

Caisin saw Nyx's mouth turn upward in an ever so slight smile. Whether about his falling comment or about him being late, he wasn't quite sure. It didn't worry him any, at least not when a tremor ran through the floor. It was felt, more than heard, but it was clearly the announcement of something rather big just landing right outside. There were loud clacking, screeching noises approaching the dining hall. Wait… are the dragons able to come into the dining room? Can they even fit?' He suddenly worried about the potential for a very large animal trying to squeeze itself inside the small area, and if said animal might just accidentally knock the entire roof down onto them. No sooner had he finished that line of thought, than a head poked out from the dining hall entrance, followed closely by the massive body. Oh I guess that answers that question. He wondered, watching the wyvern as it squeezed itself in, and adjusted itself into a comfortable position. There was more than plenty of room to spare, the room being bigger than he thought, and most likely able to fit several wyverns if need be. He watched as the dragon swung its head around, gazing at all the students with an intense ferocity in its eyes. It was a mix of dark blue and grey; with elegant white claws and horns. Seeing it this close for the first time, Caisin even noticed some smatterings of gold flecked here and there on it. This one's Neha right? He questioned, thinking back to this morning. Her beauty left him in stunned silence once again, simply admiring it. The Wyvern then swung her head around toward him and Nyx, taking a sniff at Nyx's hair. He could hear the rumbling deep in Neha's chest with each breath, and could feel the hot air puffing from her nostrils. Nyx recoiled a bit, turning her head away away from the dragons nose as she murmured a greeting. Then Neha turned toward him, her lightning gaze seemingly pinning him in place. In the back of his mind he could hear Nyx saying something. Pulling his thoughts away from the dragon gazing down at him for a minute, he realized he was holding his breath and his chest was starting to ache. "Uh, I just live in my family's farm. It's a little ways from the town, but you know how parents are. " He chuckled. "I'm their only kid left so there was quite a long time of goodbyes and preparing." 'Yeah, like they'd have let you take one step out that door if they knew where you were really going.' The voice in the back of his head muttered as his smile slowly fell into a sour grimace, but thankfully Nyx was turned away, facing Neha, and probably couldn't see his face anyway. Looking up at the dragon again, he also slowly raised his hand, alongside Nyx's. Filled with a rather rash boldness, he raised his hand even farther, reaching out to softly touch the dragon gazing down at him. |

They watched the wyverns come into the room, their heart lifting. The elegant creatures settled down not too far from them, close enough that, with minimal effort, Aybis could touch them. Not that I nessacarily want to... they thought. I don't to disturb them. They looked at the wyverns' heads nearly across the room from their tails. One seemed to almost smile. Aybis looked closer at their physique, the abilty to observe from so close filling them with excitement. Their backs... They look so perfect for riding. No spikes or jagged bits, I wonder if they were bred like that. They turned, looking out the window next to them. The night was quickly getting cool, causing their breath to fog the glass slightly. One of the wyverns- Kyrena?- flicked her tail, which landed on Aybis's boot. They couldn't help but blush at such an occurrence, the light heat of the fire wyvern scales comforting. |

Kyle's head lifted from his perch on his hand as Neha set foot in the hall, slinking around the long tables, ever so intelligent eyes sweeping over the room. He watched, intrigued, as the elegant dragon investigated a couple of the students. Caisin and Nyx- he'd overheard as they had talked. A thunderous roar sounded from beyond the walls of the dining hall, likely echoed by the towering walls of the cavern, and Kyle tore his gaze away from the three, eyeing the entrance. He studiously ignored the way his heart had skipped at the sound.. it sounded less urgent anyway, and more like the usual kind of cry he'd begun to get used to in his time here. To be fair, if he was a huge powerful creature with massive lungs, he would roar like that too. Bellow and holler, just to get it out there, just to make noise, feel the rumble. Well, technically he could do that anyway, but he had a feeling it wouldn't quite have the same.. effect. Soon Kyrena and Ilia made their way through the entrance, and his gaze fixed on Kyrena she meandered over to the other wyvern, seeming to greet her friend. Kyle's gaze shifted back over to Neha. His head tilted as he watched her, curious at the storm wyvern's antics as she huffed and grumbled, soon flopping to the ground with a dramatic wail. He wondered if he should be worried- was she alright? But truth be told her behavior seemed more.. well, rather familiar. Kyle scratched his chin, thinking. He glanced down at the remainder of his dinner, sitting sad and forgotten at the bottom of the bowl, then smirked. With a hand he reached in and plucked a chunk of meat- beef probably- from it, using his spoon to scrape off excess broth so it wouldn't drip onto his pants (it did anyway). With a huff he got up, abandoning his seat to saunter over to the others. He sidled around the students and Neha's body until he was closer to her head, then crouched down, a little bit aways. Kyle was struck by a distant memory. A similar position, kneeling on the ground with half a sandwich in hand, outstretched towards a nervous stray dog and a hopeful expression on his own face. His mother had always gone on about his "bad habit" of feeding all the strays, but he could never say no to those big eyes and those sad little whimpers. He couldn't remember if he'd been told any rules about "feeding the dragons" but oh well, guess he was about to find out. "Neha~" Kyle cooed, tentatively reaching out a hand, the chunk of beef sat invitingly in his open palm. |
