Feedback Request: Traveling Wolves

Posted 2022-10-11 20:01:36
I guess it makes sense that you could just recall a wolf whenever you want but as someone who doesn't roll over often I guess I feel it would be helpful?
While two years may have gone by for my pack three or fpur years could have gone by for my traveling wolf and I wouldn't even think about it. An automatic recall would help make sure I know and can get my wolf back before they pass on.
As for the time limit, I guess same thing? As the wolves owner I'm not really paying attention to how long they've been in one pack. I'd need to be constantly checking to make sure it's properly passing hands and remembering when it hit pack A. And with me being inactive for [X] days nothing is stopping a player from keeping my wolf for weeks instead of passing it on as they should. I think it'd help prolong the wolves travels and keep things flowing if their's zero chance of someone overstaying their welcome.

@Lily Ah, I didn't think about inactive owners. That's a good point.

It also solves the problem of "What do we do with this elderly traveler, he's over 7 years old and supposed to go home, but his owner hasn't logged in the past month?" If they automatically go home there's no problem (...except maybe for the owner if they don't have space to receive their traveler at the moment)

Good point Lily.
I'm not overly active myself as i play a certain amount of days and take a rest for a week or so before coming back. Maybe even longer as i have things in my life to do and Wolvden can easily distract me if i'm not careful.

I'd love the Option of a timer for that reason. I do love playing this game but life... life can make you busy. I also am the same with Lioden though playing both really sucks up my time if i don't remember to time things right and use my own timers to check in when i should.

I had to dig to find it but if you scroll to the misc section of this comment I think this person had a great idea for recalls with full den space! Being they automatically go to your normal reclaim slot with a 0SC fee. I think this would work for 'retirement' or 'forced recalls' as well being it wouldn't be the owners fault when these things occur so no need fo punish and charge them

If someone's sending their wolves out and going on hiatus for weeks, then I'd question why they even sent the wolves out? Why would anyone want their wolf going around without their knowledge of where it is, who has it, or how long it's been? Personally if I'm going on hiatus, I'm going to recall the wolf before RO so I don't have to worry about it.

A timer also begs the question of what if a host doesn't have time to give the traveler what they're intending? I wouldn't want to lose track of time and go to add to a wolf's bio, but the timer runs out before I can. Or if someone's getting the funds for something and isn't able to in time. I really think recall is perfectly acceptable as it is, without a timer involved.

Also, for when a wolf's supposed to go home but the owner isn't back yet, hosts could always get a 'Send Home' button. Like recall, except from the host's end. And if the owner has a full den and never comes back, the wolf can be passed on to another host. Or in the case of an older one, they can pass from old age or neglect. (Technically rude to do, but so is leaving a wolf in someone's care and dipping indefinitely with a full den, leaving those to be the only available options.)

Personally I don't participate in travelling, and probably wouldn't use the new feature, but it sounds like a cool concept!

@Whirligig Right now i don't come on that much but sometimes things just happen and one isn't able to come on for a bit... maybe they're in an accident or have a medical emergency. Those things are a factor as well. Worst case scene is that a player dies Let's not think of that one though for good reason :"D

So it isn't Just a hiatus and planning for it. Things happen and it may take a while to return.
Like me, i said that life can keep me busy but it's more than just that. I do have some issues that can stop me from coming on here like Seizures or i get very sick. Again this is just my example and i do have a at least a few other things going on that i'm not comfortable talking about.

That's why i mentioned about the timer being a thing and agreed to it.
(My seizures luckily don't happen often, only if my stress and anxiety levels are Far Too high, but still, i have paralysis after an episode that makes it hard to move let alone breath or function for a time. Last thing i am gonna worry about is recalling my wolf on here because i do need to do somethings to ensure i am okay before doing anything else and it can take awhile, from a few days to a couple of weeks.)

Oh, I'd love to use this traveler role for personal wolves too, could be great for extra wolves or trophy/frozen pups that aren't needed to fill roles, I'd just simply not be transferring them around!

Things can happen, certainly. I tend to go on sporadic hiatuses for months at a time myself due to not-so-great IRL stuff. Certainly not going to try to put a game before real life and I wouldn't expect anyone else to either, especially not over situations like yours. But I avoid getting into long-term commitments because I know if I disappear for a long time, that leaves unattended stuff on WD or things like it. But I get that's a personal way of looking at things, not everyone's going to feel the same way.

I still think a recall the hosts can use would be preferable. That way if anything does happen, a wolf can be sent to its home for when the owner comes back. (And if a host finds they want to get rid of the wolf immediately for some reason or another, they have a very quick and easy way to do that.)

Whether a timer is added or not, I'd like for a host eject button to be considered. It's just a good addition, imo.

I like the recall button as well and it is the main thing the post stated about so i'm not worried about it not being put in. Just a way to set how long a traveler can stay in a pack before they move on or have to return home if no one takes them in.

Either way, I'm sure staff will consider what they can for now and maybe do some updates later on if possible for it. As this is just a way to fix an issue that's going around and they're concerned about what to do and what to put in if anything. They no doubt have felt powerless in some cases and just not sure how to handle things unless they made it an official thing for the game.

Other updates we're waiting for are no doubt coming and while this could wait, the devs chose to at least find Something to put in for those who play traveler. Which is very sweet of them.
Of course they have 2 games to work on which is a thing to remember so they're busy either way so i appreciate all they do and try to make things fun and easier for players so we can enjoy their games. <3

Hope all is well for you in the future though @Whirligig
