Genetics
All genetic (not spontaneous, which are random!) mutations on Wolvden are recessive - this means they require a copy of the gene from both parents in order for the mutation to show up. A wolf is not considered a carrier when a mutation is visibly displayed. In this case, "carrier" means that a wolf is only carrying part of the genetic code needed to pass a trait. This means that if that wolf has only one copy and gets paired to the mutation or another wolf with one copy, it has the potential to produce another carrier, or the full mutation.
Taking Albinism as an example:
Albinism
Two copies of the albinism gene. Displays as a wolf with albinism.
It can produce more albinism if paired to another albinism or to a carrier.
It can produce a carrier when paired to another albinism, carrier, or non carrier wolf.
Carrier of Albinism
One copy of the albinism gene. Displays as a normal wolf.
It can produce albinism if paired to another albinism, or to a carrier.
It can produce a carrier when paired to another albinism, carrier, or non carrier wolf.
Non-Carrier
No copies of the albinism gene. Displays as a normal wolf.
It can never produce albinism.
It can produce a carrier if bred to an albinism, or a carrier of albinism.
