Guide to my Den In this section, the Lost River Region, is where my personal realism challenge unfolds. Here, my two packs, the Canyon Lake Pack and the Broken Trail Pack, live by the rules of the wild and drawing further inspiration from the Yellowstone Wolf Project. You'll find a link at the top guiding you to the specific rules, written by Morbid #86206, that I will be following for this challenge as well as a map--feel free to take a look! |

The Canyon Lake Pack inhabits a remote, mountainous region, which provides both a rugged terrain and a blend of dense forests, rocky cliffs, and alpine meadows. The pack has adapted well to this environment, showcasing strong resilience and resourcefulness, as observed by researchers. Their high-altitude habitat means that the Canyon Lake wolves are accustomed to cooler climates, steep landscapes, and less human interaction compared to lowland packs. Researchers note that this pack is likely to have adapted its hunting strategies to suit mountainous prey, such as mountain goats and elk that roam the higher elevations. The isolation of their territory may also influence pack dynamics, potentially fostering a tight-knit social structure as they rely heavily on each other for survival in a demanding landscape. |
|
The Broken Trail Pack inhabits the vast taiga forest, a challenging and remote region characterized by towering conifers, mossy ground, and a mix of marshy lowlands and drier uplands. Researchers observing this pack have noted their resilience and adaptability to the seasonal extremes of their habitat. The taiga's long winters bring deep snow and freezing temperatures, while its brief summers offer abundant greenery and prey. The Broken Trail wolves have likely adapted their hunting strategies to target species such as caribou, elk, and smaller mammals that thrive in this environment. Their relative isolation from human activity allows the pack to navigate their territory with minimal interference, though they face natural challenges from competing predators like bears and lynxes. This environment fosters a strong reliance on teamwork and resourcefulness, making the Broken Trail Pack a prime example of survival in one of the world's harshest ecosystems. |

The Intermountain Conservation Project is focused on preserving and studying wolf populations across diverse ecosystems, including mountainous regions, forests, and tundra landscapes. This project emphasizes the importance of protecting wolves' natural habitats, understanding their ecological roles, and mitigating human-wildlife conflict. By monitoring pack dynamics, prey availability, and environmental challenges, researchers aim to ensure sustainable wolf populations while fostering coexistence with local communities. The project also provides valuable insights into wolves' adaptability to varying landscapes, highlighting their resilience and importance as apex predators in maintaining healthy ecosystems. |
The Shrouded Valley Region | |

In my friend Morbid's world of the Shrouded Valley Region, I play the role of the smaller Three Creeks Wolves, who make their home in The Southern Woodlands and the Wolves of Desolate Ridge, who roam the harsh Northern Expanse. Other roles I have are my traveling healer Stark, and The Matron of Raven's estranged daughter now apprentice, Kima. |
|
The Wolves of Desolate Ridge are a hardy and resourceful pack, thriving in the unforgiving tundra and glacier-laden expanse of the Northern Expanse. Led by the Dagaz and Othala, the pack embodies resilience, unity, and adaptation, forging their survival amidst harsh winters and scarce resources. Their territory, a cold and rugged land marked by icy rivers and sweeping snowfields, demands strong leadership and cooperation. Despite their isolation in the Northern Expanse, the pack has a reputation for being fiercely protective of their borders and packmates, yet they maintain an air of mystery that leaves others curious about their ways. Within the pack, bonds are strong, and each wolf's role is vital to enduring the challenges of this unforgiving land. |
|
The Three Creeks Wolves have formed a close and mutually beneficial alliance with the Barren Hollows Wolves, a neighboring pack recovering from a devastating conflict that left their territory scarred and barren. The Three Creeks' territory, with its abundant waterways and lush woodlands, offers a valuable resource to their allies—fresh fish, game, and other food sources that are vital to the Barren Hollows as they provide protection for the smaller Three Creeks Wolves. |
