Sundown Ridge

As you crest a rise and emerge from the tall prairie grasses, movement catches your eye. In the distance below, a copse of spindly trees clusters around a small stream sheltered in the shallow dip between two golden hills. As you draw closer you can make out the shapes of wolves between the trees.

Here, the grass is flattened by the comings and goings of many paws. There are pups playing in the sun under the watchful eyes of their sitters, hunting parties dropping prey onto a pile, and others still moving about their business. There is a constant, gentle background chatter all around you.

A large gray and black male lifts his head, narrowed eyes landing on you. He seems wary but not hostile, and beckons you closer to introduce yourself.

You have arrived in the lands of the Sundown Ridge Pack.

Culture

Ambitious || Hedonistic || Fearless || Persistent || Passionate

Sundown Ridge tends to favor those who are bold and resilient. They don’t believe in denying themselves the things they want, and pursue those desires relentlessly. 

Newcomers will not find integration easy; while the pack members are friendly enough, none of them have time to mollycoddle anyone. Those joining the pack face a trial by fire; anyone who can’t keep up with these fast paced prairie wolves won’t find their place here.

That isn’t to say they’re cruel. There are many roles and niches to be filled within the pack. Those too old to perform their previous tasks may opt to retire completely, being cared for by the pack in their golden years, or take on less strenuous duties like assisting the herbalist, advising the younger wolves growing up to fill their role, etc.

Quiet, observant individuals may choose to take on scouting, a task that removes them from the chaotic center of pack life. Those too nervous or frail to hunt might choose to look after pregnant and nursing mothers and their pups. 

All tasks are treated as important, and no one looked down on for what they are unable to do. What will earn you the ridicule of these wolves is whining, lagging behind, and not putting the effort in to shape your own destiny.

History

Sundown Ridge was formed by its still-living founders, Cain and Lilith, on something of a whim. Both ambitious, reckless young wolves, they met by happenstance after leaving their home packs to strike out on their own.

Cain had grown up in a small traditionalist pack made up only of immediate family, and often went hungry as a pup; life wasn’t easy, and he mused to his new companion about a pack where that was never a worry.

Before he knew it, he and Lilith were making that a reality. They were joined by others as they travelled, quickly growing into a small pack.

They were nomadic, at first, settling only briefly to wean litters of pups. Only in the last few months have they settled, making a permanent home on the prairie and quickly expanding their territory.

They aim to create a thriving pack with plenty of territory to support their growing population; a place where none of them will go hungry and anyone can find their joy.
