The Downfall Warriors
The Downfall Warriors
The Caves of Sanctuary
Two pups, departed from their families and the land they once called home, journeyed far into lands unknown. Their paws were tired and torn from seemingly endless days of walking. Their fur was matted and soiled, their tails hung low and bellies empty. Danger lied around every corner, the wilderness was no place for two pups hardly into their adolescent years. But they fought, and they fought hard, to keep each other safe, until they could find a new place to call home.
Having crossed the dense forests, the wide open plains, over rivers, hills and valleys, the pair had made their way to the mountain foothills, near a large lake tucked in a valley between the bluffs. They hurried into the treeline, looking for a place to stay the night before traveling on in the morning. They found a shady spot that was tucked beneath a boulder that craned over shimmering lake like a small cliff. There, they dug out a scrape in the crook where the boulder met the earth, and cuddled together as the moon fell below the horizon.
When morning came, the buck left his companion to briefly scout the area. When he returned, he offered a proposal.
'Sable, why don't we start our new pack here? The air is crisp and clear. Scents will be easy to trail, and the many trees and thick brush will provide us with cover and safety." The pup looked to his companion as she crawled from the scrape and raised her nose to the air. Her icy eyes were squinted in scrutiny, and the fur on her neck bristled up.
"I don't know Rhonin, I think we should keep heading east. We don't know how far those savages may have followed us. I'm not sure it's safe here." She furrowed her brows in worry, and sat beside the stream with her head hung. The buck sat beside her and nuzzled into her cheek reassuringly.
"We've put week's worth of distance between us and them. We need to settle down soon, the dangers we face are far worse than those behind us."
The doe took a deep breath and looked around once more. The area was rather secluded, and the boulder would make excellent cover for a properly built den. The gently twittering birds in the canopy above and the rushing water at her feet eased her nerves a bit. "Let's see if there's any game around. We'll decide after breakfast." She said, booping her forehead against the buck's.
He smiled, and followed after her as they went out to hunt.
Returning with the carcass of a young elk, the two pups relished in the first good meal either of them had in weeks. With a full belly and a smile on her lips, she looked to her companion and said, "Maybe we could settle down here, at least for a while." The buck gave a joyous yelp, and happily tore into their dinner.
And so, the orphaned pups began digging out a proper den. A place to rest, a place to hide, a place to call home. They soon met another unfortunate soul. Toren, a pup not much older than them, stumbled upon their sanctuary. He joined them, helping to hunt, scout, and dig the den.
The doe quickly assumed the role of the Alpha, leading her new little pack with courage and strength. As they grew, they met more and more lost souls. Vagabonds, orphaned pups, lone wolves, and many more who needed a place to go. Each of them were welcomed into the pack with open arms, where they could build a new family from broken pieces.
A land for the warriors who have seen downfall, The Land of the Fallen, home of the broken made whole.
