Bleddyn

"What shall we do here?
We'll hunt the Wren.
Where is he?
In yonder green bush.
I see him, I see him.
How shall we get him down?
With sticks and stones.
He's dead, he's dead!
The wren, the wren, the king of all birds,
Although he is little, his family is great,
I pray you, good dame, do give us a treat."
-An outsider's retelling of a Bleddyn hunting song.
"Wolves who worship sheep? That's a new one."
-An Eastern Wolf upon being told about the Bleddyn.
__++*Bleddyn Law*++__
(To be worked on)
1. It is a crime, no matter if you are king or queen, to not allow a wolf to eat. It matters not if they are outsider or Bleddyn, anyone can eat with the Bleddyn as long as they are respectful of the pack's laws and the Shepherd's Word. Failure to follow this law will result in temporary banishment from Bleddyn lands.
2. Any wolf (Bleddyn or not) will be banished from Bleddyn lands if they are found hunting sheep or goats within our territory.
3. To kill is a great sin, punishment for killing another wolf, Bleddyn or not will result in permanent banishment.
4. Do not tolerate heretical belief, reprimand anyone who falls for heathen lies.
*(+The Word of the Shepherd+)*
(To be worked on)
1. The Shepherd's anger only passes in a moment, the Shepherd does not hold grudges, the Shepherd forgives all crimes. To be good is to be like the Shepherd.
2. Love and adore even the enemy.
3. A sick child must be treated with a special kind of tenderness, wolves afflicted with evil can be brought to the loving gaze of the Shepherd and all can be forgiven.
4. When a wolf or sheep dies, they go to the Great Pasture in the Sky where there is only eternal bliss. Bury the body in the meadows where the sheep graze.
5. There is no god but the Shepherd, anyone else who says otherwise is terribly misguided.
6. Spirits do not wander, spirits do not haunt the world as heretics would have you believe. Spirits go to the Great Pasture and there they will stay.
7. As lovely as the Great Pasture is, do not force others to go there. They must go to the Pasture in their own time.
8. Sometimes bad things happen, there is no rhyme or reason to it, it just happens. You have not displeased me if these things happen, please do not beg forgiveness for something you did not cause.
**-The Bleddyn are a group of wolves who originated from the mountains, they are unpredictable but overall peaceful and welcoming towards outsiders. Interestingly, unlike most of the packs living here this group is monotheistic and only believe in one god.
Often called the Shepherd or sometimes the Drover, the Bleddyn god is thought to be a kind and benevolent deity that does Their best to help Their children. -**
=+The Shepherd is not all powerful but uses all of Its power to assist other wolves, even the Timber wolves. They protect wolves from disease, war, and predators. Unfortunately, it must go to sleep for a year after assisting wolves. Due to the God's association with sheep and goats, the Bleddyn go out of their way to avoid hunting them and will actually protect them from predators and even fellow wolves. When you go into Bleddyn territory, you will see at least a few sheep herds there
The Bleddyn do not believe in any eternal punishment, merely chastisement for evil and redemption after death. +=
-RITUALS AND CEREMONIES-
• A common ritual they will do at the end of the month is to hunt small birds, if anyone can catch a Wren then they are "King/Queen of the Hunt" and get special privileges for four days. They do this on the 26th of December. +=
=SUPERSTITIONS AND GENERAL BELIEFS=
• The Sun and Moon are often called the Shepherd's eyes due to their belief that they belong to the same being.
• New moons are considered bad luck, as the Shepherd's eyes are closed. However it is also considered a time of revelry, as the Shepherd is not looking during these times.
• It is considered bad luck to not greet a weasel when you see one, it's even worse for your luck if you kill a weasel. Eating an already dead one does not cause bad luck but is considered to be taboo within the pack.
• -The Shepherd either takes the form of a wolf or a sheep, often a mixture of both. A wolf in sheep's clothing is considered an accurate description of the Great Shepherd.
• Any kind of Witchcraft or magic is feared and hated by the Bleddyn. In Bleddyn stories, any use of magic always ends badly. They believe it brings bad luck, famine, and evil into their meadows.
_=DIET AND NESTING=_
• Their diet is mostly made up of bird eggs, ground birds, and possums. They will sometimes go after large prey if they believe it's worth it, but they generally play it safe.
• If they do go after large prey, horses and deer are the most likely target.
• The Bleddyn often use sheep wool for their nests, it's often jokingly called "tax" for their protection. Grouse and jay feathers are also common nesting material as well.
*&-GENERAL FOLK STUFF-&*
• Shaun the Sheep is a sacred folk hero within Bleddyn mythology.
!#MUSIC#!
• Music is extremely important to the Bleddyn. Their hunts are filled with song and their dens are filled with the humming of pupsitters and pups.
• They are sometimes hired to sing for others, usually payment involves food or nesting material. Be sure to pay in Grouse if you want a good song!
Generally, they sing about the Shepherd and folk heroes. The tune depends on who the hero was, for example a folk hero well known for cunning and mischief might have a fast paced shanty dedicated to them.
