Paw #112093
Welcome to the territory of the Northern Dawn Pack. My name is Paw, and I'm based in Canada in AST. I'm online at least once a day, usually several times unless if I'm particularly busy. That being said, messages and stud requests will be looked at on a same- or next-day basis.
I have too many wolves and not enough practical roles to assign them, so I've used some creative liberty to make my own. The list below is for my own reference, and is listed in order of dominance.

When the pack is under attack, wartime pack roles are put into place. If a wolf shares many titles and therefore has many wartime roles, the highest role is the default role.
When under attack or when rations are low, wolves are fed in a hierarchal fashion. The Pack Leader is always fed first, as the pack would crumble without its leader. Scouts are fed next so that the pack maintains its main line of surveillance. Hunters are then fed so that the pack has a chance to gather more food. The Herbalist is then fed so he can continue to treat ill pack members. Pupsitters come next so that they can effectively babysit. Backup Hunters and Mentors are fed last. Camp Leaders and the Breeding Male are fed according to their secondary roles.
Pack Leader
Name not marked. Names of family are marked by π.
Explores, rations food and amusement, oversees pair bond marriages, welcomes / chases pack members, performs trades, and goes fishing. Responsible for checking on all camp leaders and maintaining unity.
During times of war, the Pack Leader is responsible for unifying his camps to defend the Northern Dawn's territory. He communicates directly with generals to defend his pack, and often is at the frontlines of battle.
Camp Leaders
Name marked according to secondary role.
Camp Leaders report information to the Pack Leader. They request rations, help assign scouts and hunting teams, and meet frequently to maintain relations and share news. They must run all punishments and promotions by the Pack Leader. If the Pack Leader is unable to lead or is killed before placing an heir, all Camp Leaders come together to temporarily lead the pack and nominate a new Pack Leader.
During times of war, the Camp Leaders are responsible for gathering together all non-combatant adult wolves and pups and relocating them to safer areas.
Breeding Male
Name marked according to secondary role.
The Breeding Male is listed for public stud and is typically chosen for his genetics and appearance. He will be assigned a secondary role as a hunter or scout in order to boost his stats.
During times of war, if he has no secondary role that puts him in a war position, the Breeding Male is considered non-combatant.
Scouts
Names are marked by π¦ .
Discover new lands and defend the territory lines from other packs. Must live in the Scragg Summit camp, as living at the summit of the mountain assures constant surveillance of the whole Northern Dawn territory. They also work together with the Herbalist to identify different plants and locate herbs.
During times of war, the Scouts become generals, as they have the most knowledge of the territory.
The North Scout travels around the Mountains and north toward the Glacier. The South Scout travels around the Mountains and south toward the Rainforest. There is no hierarchal significance to these titles.
Hunters
Names are marked by πΊ, along with π for Stalkers, π for Chasers, and π¦ for Finishers.
Divided into hunting parties depending on personality type. Responsible for honing either their Stalking, Chasing, or Finishing skills and bringing home food for their pack mates.
During times of war, the Hunters become warriors, falling under the command of a general to defend the Northern Dawn's territory. They often stay in or around camp sites to defend them directly.
Herbalist
Name is marked by πΏ.
Forages for herbs, learns new medicines, and treats sick pack members. Works together with the Scouts to identify and locate herbs. The Herbalist is also responsible for interpreting religion for the pack and supports pack members during extreme times, such as illness, grief, and birth. Tends to be a male-exclusive role.
During times of war, the Herbalist will employ some Pupsitters to help him dress wounds and nurse injured warriors back to health. If needed, the Herbalist will relocate his medical den to a location closer to battle.
Pupsitters
Names are marked by π£.
Assist mothers in birthing, raising, and protecting their puppies. Responsible for gathering nesting materials and building secure nests for laboring mothers. Tends to be a female-exclusive role. Occasionally, a pupsitter may take on a secondary title, between which no hierarchies exist:
Historians record-keep for the pack. They can choose a discipline: genealogy or sociology. A genealogical historian would spend her free time writing records of the different bloodlines in the pack. A sociological historian would spend her time recording different events in pack history. She would write biographies for wolves, note skirmishes with other packs, and talk about the development of roles over time and over leaders. Historian pupsitters take on an educative approach with their pups.
Storytellers write different fictional stories for their pups to listen to. They take on a creative approach to pupsitting.
Montessorians take a practical approach to pupsitting. They recreate adult scenarios for their pups and encourage them to develop practical skills, including nest building, cave digging, general cleaning, and carcass preparation.
During times of war, if not chosen to help the Herbalist, Pupsitters are considered non-combatant. Pups and apprentices are always considered non-combatant.
Backup Hunters
Names are marked by π, along with π for Stalkers, π for Chasers, and π¦ for Finishers.
These hunters step into different hunting parties when a main hunter is ill or nested and therefore cannot hunt. They also hone an individual skill, be that in Stalking, Chasing, or Finishing. Backup Hunters are less dominant than Hunters, and are expected to listen to the main members of the hunting party they are assigned to assist.
During times of war, Backup Hunters are placed on the frontlines. They are tasked with leaving camp sites and fighting wolves before they've had a chance to reach the more intimate areas of the Northern Dawn's territory.
Mentors
Names are marked by π².
When a wolf retires from a former role, they become mentors. They are chosen first to lead pup lessons. They may be brought back into a role if need be, but ideally remain retired until they pass.
During times of war, Mentors are considered non-combatant out of respect.
While the above roles refer to a hierarchy spread across camps, individual camps do have internal distributions of power. Camp leaders directly take orders from Alpha Kinlu. They are fill-in leaders when Alpha Kinlu is not present in their camp. Camp queens / princes keep watch of the camp while the camp chief is hunting or visiting other camps.
The camps were created to distribute the wolves of the Northern Dawn to better protect its territory. There are no social divisions in between camps, and the camps themselves do not exist in a hierarchy. Wolves in different camps are free to visit with whomever and travel wherever, so long as they notify their camp leader of their whereabouts.
