After Gold died, Penny quietly realized that her mother would never get to see her grandpuppies. Penny then solemnly came to the realization that - this entire time - she had ignored her breeding instinct. Penny knew she wasn't getting any younger either, and so she decided to relinquish the Pack Leader role to her brother, Samson. Penny then decided to go on a long journey away from the Pack, in spite of her aging body.

When she finally came back, it was obvious she had finally listened to her breeding instinct and was pregnant. As Penny was a wolf having a puppy at a much older-than-usual age, many in the Pack became concerned for both her and the unborn puppy's health.

But time passed, and eventually Penny gave birth - her litter consisting of one small, singleton pup. Many quietly assumed that it was because she was too old and too weak to have carried any more - and indeed, Penny's health steadily started to decline after she gave birth to her puppy.

Outside of his strange yet beautiful eyes, the puppy looked like a copy of his mother, except with "dusty"-er looking fur! Because Penny - and Samson's - names were quite strange for wolves, she wasn't quite sure what to name her little one, so she just named him after his "dusty" fur-color.

Unfortunately, Penny's health took a toll on her and she died only a scant few months after Dusty was born. Dusty barely knew his mother, but gets quite solemn and sad if she is mentioned.

After Penny passed, Samson and his mate, Triticum, took the little puppy under their wings and raised him up. Although he was in much better health than his sister, Samson wasn't very young either and ended up passing away when the pup became an Adol. Triticum - along with Autumn and her sisters - helped continue to raise and right Dusty along his sad and lonely road.

The early years were quite hard on Dusty. He was unsure what to think, say, or do knowing that the wolves most important to him left him so early. Sometimes he would feel upset...but most of the times he would just feel a little numbed. He does not hate nor feel wronged by his family - he is just very sad that things had to be this way. He loved his mom, he loved his uncle - he wishes they didn't have to leave so early.

Because of this, once Hayseed was born, Dusty made a small promise to himself that he would always be there for his little cousin. Dusty cares a lot about his Aunt Triticum and wants to make sure she isn't always bogged down with puppy-duties - he knows she had to sacrifice a lot to raise him as her own, and for that is is forever grateful.

Even though his relationship with his mother was quite short-lived and the aftermath has been tumultuous, Dusty had decided early on that he wants to walk in her pawprints - before Samson passed away, he told Dusty about how Penny was the best Stalker Dawnrise had to offer, which ultimately was why she would ignore her instinct to make a family. Dusty aspires to become as important to the Pack as his mother was one day - but hopefully without forgetting to live his life to the fullest, too.
