Knows the Land

Adopted from the enclave by a pair of hunters, Knows easily made herself at home in Westward Winds. She trained hard, wanting to prove herself as much a member of the pack, as much a child of Swift as a Falcon and Speaks with Fishes as any other pup. It was easy to pretend, when Speaks and Knows both carry the glowing eyes of the magic-touched. Knows quickly proved herself just as wise, as well as strong and fast. She was an easy choice for Summer's First Snowmelt to make as a her apprentice and future replacement. Summer has been a scout since the first, brought into Westward Winds by Shadow himself and served well. She wanted to retire, mentor pups, and live a less dangerous life.

During her apprenticeship, Knows got to know Shadow on the Mountain very well. Summer and Shadow are best of friends, and spent their spare time at home together, so Knows spent it with them, wanting to emulate Summer, following her around in admiration. When she first tried to court Shadow, he turned her down, not wanting a new mate to outlive him the way he outlived his first love. Summer convinced him to give it a chance anyway. Knows is young, yes, but also resilient. She understands mortality and would not seek love where she didn't believe it was worth the risks of heartbreak. Summer's council convinced Shadow to open his heart.
