Westward Winds

History

Chased from the pack of his birth by a competitor full of jealous ambition, Shadow on the Mountain established himself here. With the aid of the stranger Tala, he has chosen the mountains of this land to establish a fresh legacy. His own bloodline and land were lost to him and he does not want the same fate to befall his own kin.

Summer's First Snowmelt was the first to heed his call and join his pack. Her reliable nature and skill in scouting has been invaluable in establishing Westward Winds and keeping the territory safe. Shadow values her skill and wisdom. Ice of Glacial Peaks was second to come, and Shadow knew immediately on sight of her that she could be entrusted with his bloodline.

Two pups were born to them- Fire in the Taiga and Moss at the Riverside. Even as a pup, Taiga showed promise in leadership. With courage and likeability, Shadow knew she would be the one to carry on his legacy. When the day comes that he is too old to lead, it is Taiga's children and their children who will keep Westward Winds alive and safe.

Sunlight on the Ferns and Watches the Sunrise came from a nearby pack in kindness and curiosity, wanting to help the new pack grow strong. First Snows of Winter was befriended on a scout, and though he is not as reliable as the others, he is kind and willing to take orders on the hunt. Rises at Dawn and Secrets in the Wind came next, befriended through Shadow's adventures.

Shortly after his arrival, Secrets in the Wind was chased out of the pack by Shadow on the Mountain. His dishonest personality brought discord to the family unit, and brought out the worst aspects of Rises at Dawn, as they were paired together for hunting. While Dawn was unhappy with this decision, she ultimately deferred to the Pack Leader, and chose to stay. Shadow intends to regroup the division of labor, allowing Dawn time alone to scout and consider her options.

The loss of Secrets made room for Pine Needles in the Frost, an adolescent with a dedicated personality and a kind look in his eye. His pelt color is a handsome brown, one that Shadow has not seen in that shade before. As he matures into an adult and his dedication to the pack become clear, Shadow chooses to approve of him as the breeding male of the pack. With his own legacy secured in Taiga and River, and his loyalty bound to Glacier, Shadow feels no need to father pups on anyone else. Pine accepts this appointment, clearly excited by the prospect of being a father to many. From here, the story unfolds...

Westward Winds is a matrilineal pack- Leadership of the pack will be chosen from the lineage of the current leader's sisters and daughters, and not through the sons. Ideally, the fathers of these heirs will come from outside packs, to strengthen the bloodlines with fresh genetics.
