Biography
Field of Sunlit Rye, or "Rye" for short, is one of the two alphas of the Pack of Golden Skies. His pronouns are strictly masculine. He is the pair-bonded mate of Mask of Keen-Eyed Magpie (Magpie), and is the first generation alpha lead.
Rye is a friendly and languid wolf who left his old pack after a couple relationships fell through. He decided to seek exploration and adventure to try and smother his heartbreak, and thus he was happy to remain a loner; however, this all changed when he met a handsome wolf named Magpie in his travels. They slowly grew closer as the moons passed, and after an emotional confession to one another, they finally decided to leave their loner lives behind and start a pack of their own, which they named the Pack of Golden Skies (which was based on their first date—a shared meal under a golden sunset). Little did he know, Rye fell pregnant soon after the confession, and moons later, he had a litter of surprise pups.
Though his children were technically an accident, Rye loved them all dearly, and became fiercely protective over them. After all, they were the first members of he and Magpie's pack! However, the happy family soon hit a roadblock—the idea of growing their pack's diversity was awfully stressful for the both of them, because Rye and Magpie were incredibly devoted to one another and distrusted stranger wolves. So, they instead decided to select one of their first sons, Buck, to become the pack's breeding male. This way, they could continue the alpha lineage of their pack, and they could choose their own alpha heir in time. This idea allowed Rye and Magpie to create more rules down the line, such as who deserves respect and who is allowed to have offspring.
Rye later had a few more litters (planned, this time), and selected his daughter, Shroud, to become his heir. Rye grew steadily older, but was worried about the health of Magpie over himself; even in his old age, he busied himself with a frantic search to find the immortal jellyfish, which was rumored to be able to grant eternal youth and even bring a wolf back from the dead. Eventually, after much of his life had passed him by, he finally found not one, but two of these jellyfish. He and Magpie made a pact that whoever passed away first would be wished back to life, and that wolf would wish his partner back from the dead afterward, thereby allowing them both to live free from pain eternally.
Though they had made that promise, when Rye eventually woke in the night to find Magpie lying cold at his side on the twenty-second of March, he fell into a downward spiral of panic and grief—even knowing that he was able to use the jellyfish. Though Magpie did open his eyes again, having regained his past youth, Rye couldn't help but to collapse into his arms and suffer a breakdown. Magpie comforted him gently, promising to do the same for him as soon as he died. Rye suggested he simply end it right there to skip to the good part, but Magpie assured him that he needed to 'beat his high score'. Rye swore to live until eight years and die on the dot, simply to spite god—and that he did. He and Magpie now live happily together, free from any burden of age or rank.
