the female pup was taken from safe and kind lillemor when she was four months old. she'd been sent to the bear only days ago by her previous pack, so they must've come back for her, right?
she was wrong.
it was a different pack. different scents, different wolves, different territory. to say she was terrified was an understatement. the wolves were kind, at least - they seemed to be, anyway. her adoptive parents were sweet enough - kexing always found a way to make her smile and le qi would always make up funny stories to make her laugh. she didn't want to be abandoned again. why was she left with the bear? was she not good enough?
the wolves gave her a name. le tao. it was strangely beautiful, but it didn't stop the hole that bled in her heart.
furious and grieving, le tao trained herself hard. she begged the wolves in the pack to help, even if she was still wary. at least now i'm abandoned again, i'll be strong enough to survive by myself.

the pack no longer considered le tao as a pup. she was expected to choose a path she wanted to go down to help her pack. "can't i be the leader?" le tao had asked, only mostly joking. after a good scolding, le tao grudgingly decided that she wanted to be a hunter. she wasn't going to let all her strength training be wasted on making medicine or looking after puppies.
she was starting to integrate into the pack. she hardly remembered anything about her old one, anyway. she was too young. this one was nice to her. even though she wasn't related to anyone, she considered le qi and kexing to be her parents.

le tao went on her first real hunt with the hunting party today. xiuying, le qi and kexing. both of her adoptive parents and the smartest wolf in the pack. she was glad she didn't screw anything up. with le qi's help, le tao managed to kill a muskrat.
it was a start, and the whole pack was proud of her, yet even with all the praise, she still felt upset, deep down inside. maybe she had gained abandonment issues, but every time le qi and kexing left le tao alone for the night, she felt as if she was going to cry. was it the emptiness of the apprentice den? maybe they only cared about her because she was the only apprentice.

another puppy was adopted into the pack. he was like her. abandoned and then picked up again by a different pack only a while later. he was scared, le tao could see that, but he was also curious. le tao could relate to him. she still was scared sometimes.
he was the sweetest and cutest little thing. mao long, his name was. le tao liked it. she came up with it herself. he was her little dragon.
le tao found herself always gravitating towards the puppy. she tried teaching him how she was taught to hunt, to kill prey, but mao long was more interested in following after xiuying, with her sharp nose and mind.
le tao was bummed, but was cheered up once mao long insisted that they could be in the same hunting party together when they grew up. they couldn't both kill the prey. they needed a wolf to find it, and that would be mao long.
it fit the pup. he was so sweet and gentle. le tao couldn't see him tearing at prey with his teeth and claws. he seemed like the kind of wolf to find the prey and then fall behind and let the others finish it off.
le tao was eager to show mao long the rest of the territory once he was old enough.
