Why the new personality update is awful

Why the new personality update is awful

SIKE!!!

I am beyond ecstatic for this update and I know a lot of my fellow rp'ers and just wolf lovers alike agree. This was a much needed update in my opinion and I title this so strongly to hear your thoughts!

Here are some things I foresee happening from this:
  • More integration of onsite mechanics into roleplay

  • Personal relationship forged with your packmates (think like pokemon amie)

  • Challenges in your lore!! Maybe those star-crossed lovers of yours really need to overcome a lot of problems to get along...

  • Selling wolves far more based on personalities and even relationships with each other

  • Traveling wolf's heartbreak!!! I know I had to rp that, but having a real game indicator of the emotions of the traveling wolves makes me very happy

  • Some downsides I could see from this: amusement items sell for less, food items sell for less

Also, this is a more me type thing because I have been running pageants, but I want to figure out how to work a mechanic like that into contests in the forums! Maybe even have some sort of DRAMA!!! I would love to hear everyone's thoughts, thank you for reading :)

I'm also incredibly excited for the update, and AAH the personal relationships thing is happening to me XD-

Whenever one of my wolves wether it's Kaede or Miu or Maki or Neptune leaves me a gift or something, i just get all happy :]

I'm an rp'er but I have mixed thoughts about this update. Some of the text messages & gifts on individual wolf pages are nice and can inspire some ideas, and I like the Relationships tab in family that lists your wolf's half-siblings too. But I don't like that the game forces some character interactions on you, or when you send wolves scouting or pupsitting and they give you a bad attitude. I also just had a newborn puppy compliment Kyllikke on being such a good leader and then getting flustered when he tried to return the compliment... The Socialisation feature itself is kind of fun, I guess? I need more time to decide if I like it.
I have a specific image of my characters in my mind - I don't want the game to tell me how they're supposed to behave. Kind of wish I could disable it to be honest, sorry

EDIT: I would LOVE to see Relationships include other people's wolves, promoting relationships between different packs. Now that would be cool.

I will say that in the update thing it was mentioned that only adult wolves were taken into consideration, so I suppose pups will come later. I understand wanting to disable it, but I was thinking about all the interactions between u as the player and wolves and u are playing their leader so it makes sense you see a lot of wolves day in and day out. I think cross pack relations would be awesome too!!

I have very mixed thoughts on the new update as well. While it is nice to have more flavor text and a randomized chance to have interactions with your pack members, as well as small food and amusement gifts every now and then, it's a bit frustrating that it kind of forces it on you. Now I assume that the interactions you get are based on the personality of your lead wolf and the personality of the wolf that is being 'interacted' with because I have yet to have a bad encounter between my scouts and my lead and my herbalist and my lead (I have not paid attention to if sending out hunts also gives any flavor text). That part is nice because it means not everyone will just get the same old boring encounters with their pack wolves even though they may have clashing personalities.

Some downsides to the new updates. I (as well as many others I have talked with about this) hate the way that socializing can reduce your mood even more, even if only two of the wolves in the socializing group are arguing. For some people, it is already hard enough to gather amusement, and socializing just makes that even harder. For others, it's just annoying because you're spending amusement that doesn't have to be spent, because you only lose 5% mood when each amusement use fills 10% mood.
Now yes, I know that the socializing is optional, but really whats the point in adding it if its not going to be used because of the risks anyways? Now I'm sure if you had the time and really wanted to use the socializing feature you could match up every single wolf's personality and test them in socializing to see who gets along and who doesn't and give you your best chances at just reaping the rewards instead of suffering the consequences, but really who has the time to do that?

My same point goes across for the new stats that they added to the game as well. For hunting specifically- who has the time to match up each specific personality to the role that they would reap the most rewards from based on their personality? For instance, if you look in the spoiler below it shows based on the stats you gain from each personality which ones provide useful and to what specific role in hunting they provide use to. That's a pretty small list to me, and I really don't have the time to sort my wolves based on their specific personality to match them well in hunting parties. It already takes up enough time and energy as is to match them up according to personality type. Not to mention the stats don't contribute towards born puppy stats.

Anyways, that went off on a little side trail that isn't really what this thread is trying to talk about in particular. My general point is that while I'm not mad that they introduced personalities and the ability to take on relationships, etc. among the pack now, they could've gone about it better.
I also slightly disagree that food and amusement will go down very much in cost just based off of the new random encounters you can have among your pack. Not every single encounter gives you a toy or food item, and when it does it's usually only a 4-use food item or a 1-use toy item. I guess if you spend a lot of time sifting through your pack that can add up pretty quickly, but with how many people I see around that struggle with food and amusement it's not as likely to have that big of an impact on the market because there will always be people in a desperate search for food and amusement. I very well could be wrong, and I'm not saying that it's for sure not going to impact, but the chances of it changing that much aren't as big as we might imagine if you really think about it for a minute.

Anyways, that's my long tangent of thoughts, opinions, and my side of logic for you. I definitely think finally getting to the projects that they've been promising for awhile now is a good thing, but I also wouldn't mind waiting longer for these things to come out if it meant that they're less buggy and more thought out and player-base friendly. I hope you enjoyed reading haha, and have a good one to you all no matter what you think about the new update <3

I did enjoy reading! And to your side point about the hunting parties, I think this is one of those things that reminds me of the game Stellaris in that there are sooooooo many different things to do in the game but if you pick one or two things and do them really well u can ace it. That's how I feel about stats related to hunting and all that. I know someone who is really lovely at that and it's def not me! I could see how that coupled with the chance to have a lower happiness can make it seem obnoxious. Me personally, I'm trying to make enemies for lore so while it is a little weird having that result in negative mood, for me it adds a nice challenge.

I do wonder @Emo if you prefer playing lioden more because from my limited experience playing lioden it seems much less collaborative lore wise and much more competitive and I wonder if that just appeals to different people. Would love to hear your ideas as far as that!

That's actually pretty cool, I didn't think about it much for lore purposes. I'm not super attached to my current wolves so I haven't been diving much into lore at all (though I hope to soon! It's been awhile since I've done lore and roleplaying and a part of me misses it).

I actually have a hard time getting into LD, as shocking as it may seem considering I'm a huge big cat person. The layout and constant events, as well as terrified of what the community could be like deter me from it a bit, though I do occasionally log on again to try and play for a week or two. That's actually another point about WD is I'm not a fan of the monthly Lunar Event. Maybe I would have different thoughts on it if it applied to colors I like more, but for me the pass rates for the markings and eyes are too high for them to mean much anymore. And the skin/claw/nose apps mean nothing anymore either because I doubt hardly anyone breeds for those specifically.
The same goes for piebald too. I mean 50$ for a MoD and while the pass rate may not be great with how much mass breeding the rich side of WD can do it quickly becomes pointless.

Ranting aside, LD is definitely fun once I get into the groove, but I don't find myself able to stay in it for long because of how confusing everything is and my lack of interest in the breeding aspect. I also don't find myself able to focus on many games at once. I play one or two games usually at a time, and even then I don't have much time for games anymore. And since I've been in WD for so long, around since it was publically released I think, I'm just more used to it and can easily autopilot my chores for WD.

I def agree w you with the MOD's and I will agree that lunar marks arent really that cool considering how everyone has a pretty good opportunity to get them, but i like to think of marking and base apps as wolf sprucers to make em pretty! Thats prolly the pageanter in me talking tho. LD is definitley......... a lot for me lol. I like the taking it slow of WD or even just like the taking it normal rather than the hustle and bustle of LD. I think the socializing works in with that nice! It's a way to make ur pups more than just a number.
