You head out to newer territory, wanting to explore and possibly expand your terriroty to compete against rivals. But the further you go from your home, the more strange and eerie everything seems. Eventually, you come across snow. At first it's just small patches scattered across the ground, slowly growing into bigger and bigger clumps, until soon enough you are trudging through deep snow that prevents you from seeing the plain ground. No big deal for you, it's just snow after all. Your ears prick up at the sound of creeking bark from the trees, a low but chilling breeze moving through the area. Unease settles in your mind; you didn't realize how quiet it was until now. Yet, you continue. Nothing has threatened you yet, although claiming this as territory didn't seem very useful as no critters seemed to be around to hunt. You try to pay more attnetion to your surroundings, maybe this place held a potential that you just had to look for more carefully.
You're listening is interrupted with distant chatter and laughter, and you swivel your head to face the direction of the sound. You see several wolves padding easily through the thick snow, distant enough you can barely see them against the black and white background of the snow and trees. You couldn't tell if it was a patrol party or just a bunch of youngsters wandering abandoned land. Before you could find out, a large gust of wind hits you, blocking out the sound of the strangers and forcing your eyes shut so snow doesn't fly into your eyes. When it passes, you hear nothing. You open your eyes and gaze out where the wolves once were. Nothing was there anymore. You hesitate at first, but then make your way through the trees to where the wolves once stood at. No trail could be seen anywhere nearby. Surely you didn't just imagine them? You shake your head, thinking you might just be paranoid, and begin to travel deeper. Sudden laughter errupts behind you, and you whip around to find the source. Your fur prickles when you see no one. Someone must be playing a prank on you. You lift your head high and continue to trot on. No trickster was gonna get you. You continue for several minutes as small giggles and light pawsteps follow behind you. Eventually, you feel something nip at your tail. You growl and turn around, but again, nothing was there. Your fur stands on end. It was time to get out.
You start to retrace your steps, working at a quick pace to get out. Something follows you, crunchy steps in the snow keepin up with your fast pace. You continue to speed up, until soon you are running, ears pinned back as you hear multiple pawsteps racing behind you. You whip your head around while running still, thinking you could catch a glimpse of your persuers. But right as you do so, you slam straight into a tree, knocking the breath out of you as your world goes black..
You gasp awake at the same moment, looking around you in panic. Oh, it was just a dream. Relieved, you sit up and stretch before padding out of the den you resided in to greet your pack. Only, you come into a clearing to see a bunch of strange wolves scattered about, all who look at you as you make your presence. Your fur prickles, and only one thought comes to your mind as you look at the strangers- the haunted wolves...
