Yaya-Liu

Yaya, formally Yang-Liu (刘飏, pronounced: líu yáng), craved to be a finisher. She took in the tired elders with whom her mother had hunted, noticed how the other hunters were aging too. The pack would need more hunters soon. This was opportunity, and she seized hard. She hounded her mother, Uma, for personal lessons. She practiced on her littermates, using every tree root and bush to spring suddenly upon them.
Of course, she'd heard the stories of the overly ambitious Kijelo. Xüdie had told her about how Nyme had driven away her own son for fighting to become the next leader. But Yaya knew she wasn't like him. She wasn't as calm as her friends Zhiyuan and Erhyi, but she was still connected to the rest of the pack.

As she aged into adolescence, Yaya outgrew her tendency to harass and push around the other pups. Some of the hunters, however, believed differently. Even though she'd grown up at Aostral Pillars among them, when they heard all of her littermates had turned to the wandering life, they turned on her. She's the reason her littermates are leaving, she heard them whisper. Being a finisher won't quench her ambition. She'll run us all over to get what she wants.
She was lucky Erhyi was there to rebuff them with threats and lucky that Zhiyuan was there to comfort her with reason. And the three of them soon moved to Nemorei Upland, where the hunters dismissed the rumor and finally let her apprentice as a finisher. As she watched Erhyi win the respect of the pack by challenging Nymẹ, though, Yaya wondered if she'd ever be respected the same way. Would her puphood ambition weigh her down forever?

Today, Uma put a toy near a guarding adult packmate. Yaya was required to ambush the wolf using the den's familiar terrain with only a few suggestions from Uma - an important lesson to take advantage of the surrounding land and what it has to offer.

Timing is key when working with others so that you don't get in their way. Yaya learned that being first sometimes means that you're the first one that gets scolded by Loki if something goes wrong.

Yaya learned about hierarchy and the rules within the pack. She was surprised how the adults could always remember all of this.
