Breeding Terminology for Future Reference - A Proposal

Posted 2020-10-11 21:30:06

VagueShapes, coming from previous animal games based around genetics I have always hoped for a clan, or breeding project groups with a similar outlook on genetics, based more so on literal fact than opinion. I'm also quite interested in what UnheardSiren had to say!

If either of you have a specific project or mission  to uncover mechanics/genetics in mind I would be highly interested in hearing it ^-^

Just one more thought.

It may help to remove any indications of bias in one direction or the other in the OP. Assuming the thread is meant to cater everyone and not just people who dislike/would prefer alternatives to the terms clean/dirty, it would probably be wise to have the starting point of the discussion not be favoring one direction.

I also come from a breeding and genetics  as well as a data analytical background, would also love to keep up with the mechanistic and genetic side of things in Wolvden. I don’t generally bring constructs of human morality into a pixel game. In real life, of course incest is offputting and in many cases unthinkable. But this isn’t real life. It’s reshuffling RNG draws, learning and working odds and a bit of luck. I don’t usually RP  in games like these so maybe that is why the whole concept of equating a game mechanic of “inbreeding” -  and I use the descriptive term loosely, because these are not actual living creatures, they are combinations of strings of code, let’s not forget reality, OK - to real incest, seems like an enormous and incomprehensible leap to me.  I’d rather just focus on playing the game and figuring out how to get the things I want in a way that’s effective and enjoyable.

As the OP and many other players they know specifically don't want to use the term, I believe it has its purpose being in the main post. It would also cause for a confusing change at this point in the discussion as a lot of points made have been based around or include that point.

Maybe the reason people think you’re coming off as hostile and defensive is because you’ve been aggressively tone policing the original poster and the people in this post who are responding to the original poster, like you just did in your very last comment, Jax.

I agree Bonibaru, I have a hard time reading specific tones over text, so I prefer to take a less direct approach and give everyone the benefit of the doubt haha.

@ xXDruidXx If I'm not mistaken, the point of the thread was a discussion about possible breeding terms and one that invited all members to discuss civilly (and if you're inviting all members, it probably helps to be neutral). I feel like I've been pretty civil and respectful.

You may feel that way but other members of this thread feel differently. Whatever you intended has not come across, and ultimately it's not the intentions its the impact. This was specifically to find different terms, I'm sorry if that upsets you.

How someone feels they've been responding is not quite as important as how it is interpreted. I've learned that through lots of therapy sessions. If multiple people feel you have been being harsh or rude Jax, that, unfortunately, outweighs you feeling as if you haven't been.

Just because I'm disagreeing or contesting most of the points being made doesn't mean I'm being "harsh" or "derisive" or "rude". People are going to disagree with you and there's nothing rude about having a difference of opinion.
