Kyle shrugged at Nyx's question, fiddling with the pencil in his hands. "Mostly just worked on the farm. Had a job at the bakery downtown for a little while but, um.." He paused, awkwardly clearing his throat. "..Just not my, uh, calling, I guess." He'd been fired within the month. Fair enough, he supposed, he would also probably fire someone if they set his storerooms on, well.. fire. He hadn't been particularly upset about it- losing the job at least. The fire had been accidental, regardless of what the stuck-up Mr. Henson had to say about it. Kyle would never intentionally ruin that much perfectly good bread! Regardless, at least farmwork had put him outdoors, instead of cooped up in a stuffy kitchen, or stuck behind a counter managing customers. Plus, it was far easier to sneak away when he was off out in the fields or the like, further away from watchful, disapproving eyes. He tapped the pencil to his chin and gave a firm nod. "Much happier to be here though," He went on, "I think I would sooner die of boredom than anything else if I had to spend the rest of my days on a farm." Glancing over at the remaining students, he raised his eyebrows curiously, eyes flicking from one to the other. "What about you guys?" He asked. Slowly but certainly, the fog of mystery hanging over his new peers was clearing, revealing an intriguing assortment of people. Perhaps his hopes of making some new friends was not so far-fetched after all. |

They mulled the words of the other students over in their head. "Well, I've never really had a true 'job', more just roles to aid around the village." They said thoughtfully. They were getting a little more comfortable around the others, but still felt a little wary. "Mostly I worked with the animals. Goats and sheep; milking, herding, tending, etc. I used to love going out in the summer on horseback and sheparding them while they grazed freely, it was amazing to spend weeks at a time just being in the steppes with the animals," they smiled somewhat wistfully. They looked down at the table. "I had a horse too, named Eagle. He. . . passed away though, he was older than any of us students." Aybis clicked their nails against the table. He was the best friend they ever could have asked for. "If he hadn't passed I don't think I'd have come here to be honest. I don't think I could've left him." Pulling themselves from the somber thought, they glanced around a bit. Aybis flushed a tad, feeling badly for ruining the mood. In attempt to draw the subject back around they jumped quickly over to the only other thing they were really good at. "But, uh, in terms of other roles I used to stoke the fires and hearths back home, keep the elders' houses warm and such. It wasn't the most exciting job but it was fun to see the logs ignite and turn into embers." They clasped their fidgety hands together, glancing back at the small group. |

Caisin could hear the conflicting tone behind Nyx's words. Maybe there's more to this Corvus guy than just a boss. He thought to himself, tucking that information away mentally. Whoever he was, it didn't sound like she was too comfortable talking about him. "I just helped my parents on the farm mostly." Caisin piped up when his turn came. "It's definitely slow life there, but its out in the countryside. I mostly spent my free time wandering out in the woods, exploring. It took quite a few times of getting lost before I learned my way around." He chuckled, slightly embarrassed "But I was getting hunting lessons with a bow and stuff before I left though. That way at least my wandering habit was at least a little useful." He grinned again. Elbowing Aybis playfully, he joked "hey we should take a camping trip sometime." "It was great being outside all the time. I hate being stuck in small areas." Well, now that he thought back on it, he never used to mind the small spaces so much… but now, the idea of being trapped in an enclosed space unnerved him. Weird… He thought as he furrowed his brows. Suddenly reminded of a question he had been thinking on, he turned toward the headmaster. "Didn't you guys mention a trip into town? When was that planned?" He asked, suddenly excited at remembering it. They could check out all the shops and maybe he'd find something cool he could buy. He at least needed some new clothes, or maybe a new hunting knife if any shopkeepers had them. There was always new stuff at the towns to see! |
